Grab it before it's gone! Messina's gelato tubs hit Woolworths and they're flying off the shelves!

When it comes to indulging in a sweet treat, Australians know their gelato.

And when one of the country's most beloved gelato brands partners with a supermarket giant like Woolworths, you can bet it's going to cause quite a stir.

A recent launch has proven just that, with stocks disappearing as quickly as a scoop of gelato on a hot summer's day.

Messina recently launched a new $15 gelato tub at Woolworths, marking the artisanal gelato maker's foray into the store's freezer aisles.

Known for their high-quality, creative flavours and cult following, Messina has brought a taste of their best to the masses with this collaboration.

The range includes six signature flavours: Dulce De Leche, Messina Hazelnut Praline, Messina Robert Brownie Jr., Messina Super Vanilla, Messina Pistachio Praline, and Tiramisu. Each 457ml tub is priced at $14.50, offering a premium experience for gelato enthusiasts.

However, the excitement doesn't stop at tubs. Messina has also introduced three ice cream cakes to Woolworths' shelves, each priced at $30 and available in flavours like Tiramisu, Choc Malt Bavarian, and Iced-Cocoa Bavarian.

These decadent desserts are perfect for celebrating special occasions or simply treating yourself to a slice of luxury.

The response from customers has been overwhelmingly positive. According to Matthew Bell from the supermarket's ice cream team, ‘Customers are loving the range, with Pistachio Praline emerging as a clear favourite and Dulce de Leche not far behind.’

Messina's Owner, Nick Palumbo, expressed his delight at the success of the Woolworths collaboration.

He stated that the response to the $14.50 Woolworths tubs surpassed expectations, with the 457ml product having ‘instantly sold out’ in numerous stores.

‘We’ve been asked to do a supermarket range for years, and we never entertained it as we didn’t want to do a cheap product that didn’t reflect our brand,’ Mr Palumbo shared.

‘This time, Woolworths came to us to partner on a premium product, which meant we could use proper ingredients, and the quality is something we’re happy to have in a supermarket aisle.’

He mentioned that the brand aimed to make its iconic gelatos accessible to those who don't live near their shops.

By launching in 800 Woolworths stores, even more Australians can now enjoy the artisan gelato.

‘Most of the stock sold out straight away, so Woolworths are pushing through to get more stock on shelves, and we are busy making the additions at our end,’ Mr Palumbo explained.

‘With supermarkets, it does take slightly longer to get through the cold chain, so hoping we’ll be fully stocked and back on shelf in a week or so—bear with us.

Woolworths stated that customers can use the ‘check stock in our stores’ tool on its website to find the latest availability of any products.

Those who were fortunate enough to snag the sought-after tubs have taken to social media to share their reactions and taste tests.

Overall, influencers, food enthusiasts, and everyday Australians alike have praised the range as delicious.

After trying the Dulce De Leche flavour, Melbourne food reviewer @nectoriouspapi described it as ‘amazing, but did we expect anything less from Messina?’

He also noted that the Pistachio Praline ‘didn’t miss’ either, showcasing the quality one would expect from local gelaterias and highlighting the generous amounts of pistachios and pistachio fudge throughout the tub.

Other creators, like @joytanpillay, admitted the nutty flavour was ‘so good but so dangerous’, while @serenas__cucina loved its ‘creamy’ texture.

Social media creator @d_vanlieshout encouraged his followers to ‘get yourselves a tub this weekend and indulge’.

However, as the hashtags ‘#Messina’ and ‘#Woolworths’ gained popularity online, the perception that the tubs were ‘overpriced’ also emerged.

‘$14.50 for less than half a litre. That’s gonna be a no from me [unless] they do a half-price special,’ one shopper wrote.

Some described the price as ‘crazy’ and ‘outrageous’, while another remarked that they ‘had to do a double take’ when looking through the freezer aisle.

While some shoppers might find the price high, Messina responded to dissatisfied commenters by noting that it's ‘$5 cheaper than our in-store 500mL’ and encouraged everyone to look out for discounts at Woolworths.

As the excitement surrounding Messina's new gelato tubs continues to sweep across social media, with many praising their quality and taste, another delectable dessert option is making waves in Australian supermarkets.

Coles has recently introduced a flavourful dessert sensation priced at just $9.50, garnering similar enthusiasm among shoppers.

This growing trend of premium desserts at accessible prices is reshaping how Australians indulge their sweet cravings, making it an exciting time for dessert lovers everywhere.
