Researchers at the University of Melbourne have created an AI tool that could revolutionise skin cancer detection.

The tool can spot abnormal skin lesions in real time by combining artificial intelligence with thermal imaging. It achieved an impressive 94% accuracy in trials while working across a range of skin tones.

The technology could become especially valuable in rural areas with limited specialist care.

It’s a big leap forward in the fight against one of Australia’s most common cancers.
