Goggo Dart

Remember the Goggo Dart? That sleek little fibreglass car you’d spot zipping around in the '60s. One social media user even recalled seeing one in Riverwood—it was like a life-sized toy! Did you ever see one on the road? Or did you own one? Share your stories here!

I remember the ads with actor Tommy Dysart on the phone trying to buy parts for his Goggomobile and him saying “No not the Dart!” Very good ad😀

My first car was a Goggomobile Dart in 1964. I lived in a funeral home in Burwood NSW which had a large bitumen backyard, where I practiced driving it. My father took me to Five Dock police station for my driving test and the poor policeman hurt his leg badly as he had to climb over the side, and sit on the seat and slide it forward, he hit his knee on the windscreen. The car was so close to the ground he asked me if I was Jack Brabams daughter! Because my father was an ex cop, I got my licence first go. I was then free to roam around Sydney in my lovely reed Goggo. I felt like a million dollars. You could see daylight through the fibreglass bonnet. The problem with my Goggo was it didn't like night driving, it worked very well without any drain on the electrics so occasionally I would be pulled up at night driving without lights, no charges because back then I could bat my 17 year old eyelashes! I remember going down Burwood Road and having to cross Parramatta Road . There were lights that turned red as I got there, but I had no brakes, so I sailed through the red lights over Parramatta Rd yelling "I can't stop", as though that would have helped. Somehow I got through the traffic and I was so nervous about my car with no brakes and headlights that drained the battery that I took it back to Buckle Motors where I had bought it. I think it was 400 pounds . It had a lawn mower engine. So that is the saga of my ownership of a red Goggo Dart
