Glazed Air Fryer Doughnuts
- Replies 0
Air fryers are one of the more recent inventions to hit the cooking scene, but you shouldn’t count them out.
These wonderful kitchen gadgets make frying possible without the hassle of all that oil, which, honestly, gets quite concerning, especially if you’re opting for a healthier snacking experience.
That brings us to this yummy air-fryer doughnut recipe!
Here’s a list of ingredients:
125ml milk, lukewarm
50g melted unsalted butter
7g sachet dried fast-action yeast
60g caster sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
275g plain flour, plus extra for dusting
½ tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
1 egg, beaten
125g icing sugar
3 tbsp milk
Flavourless oil, for proving
If you have all the ingredients available, then what else? Let’s get (air) fryin’!
You first need to combine the melted butter, milk, yeast, about 1 tsp of sugar, and vanilla extract. You can use a stand mixer or just manually mix this in a bowl. After, let the mixture rest for at least 8 minutes for the yeast to activate.
In another bowl, use what’s left of the sugar, flour, and salt (and cinnamon) in another mixture.
Once done, mix the beaten egg with the yeast mixture and the combined flour, sugar, and salt. Knead the resulting dough for about 10 minutes minimum, until it turns smooth and elastic. If you’re using a dough hook, run it on medium speed for 5-8 minutes.
Leave the dough in a lightly oiled bowl covered with a clean tea towel and preferably in a warm place for about an hour and 30 minutes until it grows.
After, transfer the dough to a floured surface and roll it to about 1.5 cm thick.
Cut out the doughnuts as desired, and then place them on a lined baking sheet. Cover them again with a tea towel. It is advised to leave them overnight in the fridge to hold their shape better, but as little as 40 minutes is needed for the dough to rise.
And now, it’s cooking time! Pop 2-3 doughnuts each in the air fryer and cook for around 5-6 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius. (Be sure to take a peek at the air fryer’s manual though, as some models do give off hotter temperatures — it would be best to keep a close eye on the doughnuts when unsure).
Once the doughnuts are golden-brown, leave them to cool and repeat until the dough is spent.
And to add icing on the cake, or rather, glaze on the doughnuts, simply sift the icing sugar into a bowl and mix with three tablespoons of milk and the vanilla extract.
When the doughnuts are cool enough to touch, dip them in the glaze before serving.
We don’t know about you, but a cuppa sounds nice with these air fryer doughnuts…
That being said, enjoy! If you ever try this, will you let us know how it goes and what you recommend changing or adjusting?
