Getting into the Easter spirit? Here are three MUST-TRY Hot Cross Bun recipes

Easter is one of the biggest holidays celebrated here in Australia... Some perceive it as a religious occasion while others as a lovely opportunity to bond with their family. And of course, no Easter celebration is complete without a couple of delicious hot cross buns. Hot cross buns stand out the most among other traditional Easter dishes and are synonymous with a fun and festive time of year.

If you’re looking for new ways to enjoy this well-loved treat, the folks from Banjo’s Bakery Cafe have whipped up three of their best hot cross bun recipes for you to try this Easter. Folks, these sound absolutely delicious!

1. Double Choc Hazelnut Bread and Butter Pudding

Looking to try enjoying your Hot Cross Buns a little differently? Well then check this out!

You just need to get a hold of the following ingredients: 3 eggs, ¼ a cup of caster sugar, 2 cups of milk, a tablespoon of vanilla extract, 300 millilitres of pure cream, 6 Double Choc Hazelnut Hot Cross Buns, and 3 tablespoons or 40 grams of softened butter.

Start it all off by preheating the oven on fan-forced at 160 to 180 degrees celsius. Then, grease up a baking dish (with a size of 18 by 27 centimetres and a depth of 5 to 7 centimetres). Proceed by whisking together the eggs, caster sugar, vanilla extract, milk, and cream in a separate bowl.

Pour the mixture over the sliced up buns and pop them in the oven for 30 minutes or until they are golden. Ta-da! Serve the delicious buns on a plate alongside a scoop of your favourite ice cream flavour.

2. Ice Cream Sandwich

Got a sweet tooth? Who doesn’t! You’re going to love this one and it’s super easy to make too! First, slice a hot cross bun in half and place it in the freezer. Once the bun is frozen, take it back out and scoop some vanilla ice cream in between the two halves. Re-freeze the buns to perfection and you have yourself a tasty ice cream sandwich!

3. Easter Egg in a Hole

The only easter snack as iconic as the hot cross bun is of course the chocolate egg. So why not combine the two for the ultimate Easter treat?

A quick and clever way to upgrade a hot cross bun is by cutting up a hole in the centre (one big enough for a chocolate egg to fit in) and then stuffing it with a cream egg. Toss it in the microwave for approximately 30 seconds to cook and you’ve got yourself a delicious, gooey and sweet snack!

There you have it, folks! Don’t these just look delectable? Just when you thought hot cross buns couldn't get any better, these recipes came in and changed the game for the better. If you’re willing to try them out for yourself, let us know how it goes down in the comments section.
