Get the designer look for less with this incredible $3.50 Kmart tip!

If you’ve been browsing around looking for nice decorations to spruce up your home, you may have come across something only to be disappointed when you saw the price tag.

It’s not impossible to find things that are reasonably priced (though it can be time-consuming), but there is an even better way to get the perfect décor without blowing your budget – by creating your own pieces!

Taking to the Kmart Home Decor & Hacks Australia Facebook group, one shopper showed how she only spent $3.50 to recreate a black matte pedestal bowl decoration – saving herself a whopping $100.

'I knew I wanted a matte black pedestal bowl but they are so expensive online,' the woman wrote along with some photos of her finished project.

'So off I go to Kmart where I purchased a Matte Black Dinner Plate and a Matte Black Bowl, and I glued the base of the bowl to the base of the dinner plate with Gorilla Glue.'

Both the Matte Black Dinner Plate and Matte Black Bowl are available to purchase for $1.75, meaning she only spent $3.50 for the entirety of the project.

'Perfect spot for my LED candles to sit on on my kitchen bench' she finished.

If you don’t have any Gorilla Glue on hand, it retails for $11.95 at Bunnings. The good thing is that you’ll have plenty left over for future DIY projects.

The shopper’s post gained traction on the group, amassing over 1,200 reactions and comments from fellow Kmart customers who lauded her for being clever with her nails-on-a-chalkboard budget.

One user wrote: 'Very clever. Looks fantastic.'

'Well done. That looks awesome.' another chimed.

A few more users expressed their excitement over attempting the hack themselves, with one saying: 'I need to do this!'

Another added: 'Genius! Might use this one myself!'

Some DIY enthusiasts shared other ways to repurpose the posh-looking piece of decoration, suggesting: 'Also works as a cake stand and bowl fixed onto a plate makes a good chip and dip bowl.'

'Such a good idea and cheaper. People are now buying the two items from Kmart.' another pointed out.

According to one user, the tip inspired many people to purchase the items from Kmart, leaving employees confused.

The user wrote: 'Kmart staff members did not know this tip and were confused why everyone only buying 1 plate and bowl.'

I won't buy plates or bowls or even their new ceramic pot plant containers.

I was in kmart yesterday and spotted their ceramic pot plant pots only to see 50 % of them cracked or broken including the tray.

We then went looking at the dinner ware only to see so many chipped or cracked plates, bowls and cups.

I've never understood why folk feel the need to fill their places up with dust catchers. To me the perfect place is a clear space, I'm so against nick knacks, who wants to give themselves more dusting or washing, seems crazy to me!
Ricci, I am the opposite if there is a flat surface I will put something on it. to say I am a hoarder is overstating my situation. I am a collector of anything useful I have in my time been a dressmaker & although I don't do patchwork I still have masses of offcuts from fabric that might come in useful someday but at 85 I can no longer use the sewing machine. I also have things left over from all the hobbies I started & gave up.

I know what your saying. I'm constantly looking at things and asking myself do I really need that .. if not out it goes. I have now seen that less around is better. I love a few photos and either plants or fresh flowers

It's ok to have alot of stuff but the secret it storage. Use large containers to store fabric ect ..label the containers and store in a room maybe your laundry or spare room. I'm lucky I have an attic which I need to organise but at least all the other rooms are homely but clutter free also by organising the things are easy to find
