Get ready for massive savings: Black Friday approaches!

Let's agree on one thing: You can never have too many savings!

Whether it's old-fashioned scrimping and scavenging or contemporary coupon-collecting, there's no shame in making your money go further.

One of the prime opportunities to do just that is during the biggest shopping event on the calendar: Black Friday.

Since it marks the start of the Christmas shopping season, it's no surprise that some of the biggest Australian retailers, such as Myer, The Iconic, BIG W, Sephora, Target, Kmart, and many more, eagerly join in.

Gone are the days of waiting in line to score the best deals. Now, you don't even have to leave the comfort of your PJs. Even online merchants like Amazon, eBay, Catch, and others have jumped on board to make shopping easier than ever.

In fact, Cyber Monday (the Monday after Black Friday, dedicated to online-only deals) is often touted as the most frenzied shopping day of the year.

So, when will all this savings mania start? This year, Black Friday begins on November 24, with extensions into the week following. Cyber Monday will occur on the 27th of November.

It’s easy to get overwhelmed by the craziness of it all, so we’ve done our homework and rounded up some key players. Here are a few sites to keep an eye out for some pre-Christmas bargains:

First up - Amazon. The tech giant traditionally accounts for more than 50% of all Black Friday sales, and it's no surprise when you see just how many discounts they have available across games, fashion, electronics, books, and so much more.

eBay is a close second in terms of the sheer volume of deals: electronics, popular video games, brand-name fashion and footwear—all these and more scream bargain. Members, we also recommend keeping an eye out for flash sales on popular items throughout the platform!

Catch is great for last-minute shoppers, too. Dyson vacuums, smart home devices, fitness trackers, sneakers; if you can think of it, it's likely Catch will have it.

You can also expect discounts from the bigger brick-and-mortar retailers like Harvey Norman, Big W, JB Hi-Fi, Target, The Good Guys, Myer, Kmart, EB Games and Bunnings. Just be aware that most of these sites also have online sales, so you can keep a savvy social distance if you'd prefer.

I wouldn't buy a box of toothpicks from Amazon. Having done some subcontracting work for them setting up their Dandenong South warehouse, they treat you like criminals. If you think store security is over the top, try Amazon. Upon entering the warehouse, you are faced with a scanning turnstile, security with airport style wands and a physical patdown. That happens entering AND exiting the site. A combination of the SS and Gestapo, Jeff Bezos style.

Makes me wonder how many stores catch people out by advertising big Black Friday savings when they put their prices up beforehand and drop them back to normal for the sale. Customers just go bonkers snapping up so called sales without even checking if they are genuine sales or a marketing strategy by retailers.
