Get free stuff from BIG W! Here's how to join their secret product testing group

We here at the SDC love finding out about all of the different ways our members can score free stuff – especially when that stuff happens to be from one of our favourite retailers, BIG W.

We already know that we can trust the discount department store chain to offer us a range of budget-friendly products, from electronics and homewares to clothing and toys.

But did you guys know that BIG W also has a 'secret shopper' program where select customers are chosen to test out new products in exchange for giving feedback about their experience? We certainly didn't!

It's called the Trusted Quality program, and it was launched by the retailer recently as a way for families to test out new products before they hit shelves – everything from women's leggings and baby items to kitchenware and cleaning supplies.

Just like the Woolworths Bunch initiative, members of this online research group (named Gather) have the opportunity to try out a wide range of products before they hit store shelves.

Even though many other customers (like us!) were unaware of its existence, there are certain lucky people out there who have been invited to participate in BIG W's tester program, and they went on social media to share their experiences.

In a popular Facebook group for BIG W shoppers, one person shared that they received a parcel in the mail: a scrapbook and a box full of school accessories. 'Amazing start to the week!' they wrote.

At the same time, other users said that Gather had contacted them via email, inviting them to join the group and offering them to try out some family products for themselves.

So far, shoppers have given the thumbs up to cheese knives, bath towels and microfibre cloths, among other things.

If this sounds like something you'd be interested in doing (and let's face it – who doesn’t want free stuff?), then read on for more information about how you can sign up to become a reviewer for BIG W!
Key Takeaways

  • BIG W has launched a new 'Trusted Quality' program that offers customers the opportunity to test out and review the store's latest products for free.
  • To join the program, customers need to be a member of the Woolworths loyalty program, Everyday Rewards and complete a short questionnaire.
  • So far, product testers have been sent a range of items, including cheese knives, a baby stroller, bath towels, women's leggings and microfibre cloths.
Joining the Trusted Quality program is totally free – all you need is an Everyday Rewards card from Woolworths (if you don't have one yet, you can sign up either in-store or online through this link).

Once you have your card handy (or if you already are a member), the next step is to fill out a short questionnaire through this link, which should only take 5-10 minutes.

It's about yourself as well as your household shopping habits and what kind of surveys/tester groups you'd be interested in participating in. Don't worry, there are no right or wrong answers!

Once that's been submitted, your application will be reviewed by Gather personnel; if everything looks good, then congratulations—you're on your way towards becoming a fully-fledged product reviewer!

All successful applicants will receive notifications whenever there's a new campaign or tester group available that matches their interests/preferences; simply follow the instructions provided within each notification email if you wish to participate.
Tip
You should carefully study the terms, conditions, and kinds of information these testing programs will require from you before deciding to sign up for any of them. If you're interested in learning more about Gather by BIG W, click here.

I am so ‘chuffed’ to find out this is something that everyday people can join! We often see products that look really interesting but due to not having seen or used them before we often cant decide wether to go ahead with buying the item right then.. Often decide to ask around to find someone who has info regarding quality of the item.. This is a great idea.!

It wld be great to hv the opportunity to “test drive” products for our local population’s purchase. So much is imported that really is not worth our buying it. The frustration and disappointment when an item falls apart after a few uses, pens that fall apart in just being yr bag, clips that don’t clip, clothes with loose threads on every seam and buttons fall off at first wear, coloured items that stain yr hands by use, items of such cheap plastic that we are surprised they lasted through manufacture process let alone import - stores need “checkers” here who can try out items to see if they are worthy of Australians spending our hard won money on them. A cute fluffy pillow that molts faster than your cat is not a good buy. Goose feathered winter booties that still have sharp prickly quills poking through lining that stab yr bare feet might be warm but are too painful and scratchy to wear! I own a pair of those😢

I belong to Woolies "Gather" forum and have done for about six months. All I have had so far is requests to complete surveys which I have done but have not received any benefit yet.

I am also a member of the "Home Tester Club" and I've had a much better return from them. I have often received things for testing and it's really easy to lodge your comments on their site.:)

I just wonder how many people accept free stuff simply because it is free and then on reflection a bit later, just toss it. What gets to me is that they toss it without any conscience - simply because it was free, and therefore deemed to have little worth.
