Get a taste of the future with KFC's new PLANT-based popcorn chicken!

KFC has been making efforts to include plant-based menu items in a number of locations around the world.
The company is teaming up with Quorn to introduce meatless choices at thousands of outlets. In Europe, the United States and Canada, plant-based chicken is now a permanent menu item.
Now, KFC has just introduced its first-ever plant-based chicken option in Australia.
Wicked Popcorn is the fast food chain's first-ever plant-based meal, and its arrival in Australia has been eagerly anticipated for quite some time now, especially in vegan and vegetarian communities.
Inspired by the popularity of Popcorn Chicken, Wicked Popcorn uses the same spicy sauce found on KFC's Wicked Wings and applies it to a meatless chicken alternative (made from pea protein) before serving it in bite-sized pieces.
The plant-based dish is also served with a Lime Ranch dipping sauce.
But does it live up to the hype? Or, as people often say, is it 'finger-lickin' good?'

Sadly… no. At least, according to some people.
The fast food chain sent samples of the plant-based product to a number of news outlets to try to get them to talk about it. But unfortunately, most of them felt that the product did not live up to their expectations.
Those who tried the Wicked Popcorn in the newsroom of news.com.au had mixed reactions to the plant-based product.
While some thought it was 'rubbery' and 'tasted like broccoli,' others said that they enjoyed it, adding, 'The weird fake chicken is actually pretty good?' One of the members even said they liked it better than regular popcorn chicken.
Our friends over at Gizmodo also got to try the plant-based product before the fast food giant put it on the market for everyone else. And if you're wondering if Wicked Popcorn tastes like actual chicken, they'll be the first to tell you it doesn't.
'The consensus around the office was no,' they said.
'It has a similar texture to a Popcorn Chicken or a chicken nugget, and the KFC spices in the batter obviously add to the experience, but the meat-eaters all said it was obviously not [chicken].'
