Hey members!

How’s your Sunday going so far? I hope it’s off to a great start! As for me, I’m feeling a mix of excitement and nerves because today is my first-ever 10k fun run! I started running earlier this year to lose weight, but it’s turned into something I didn’t expect. There's something so incredibly fulfilling about it, and it's become my instant mood booster. Happy? I run. Feeling a bit down? I run. Need to clear my head? You guessed it, I run! Running gives me that sense of accomplishment and keeps me motivated. I’m hoping to cross that finish line with a shiny medal today!

But enough about me—what about you? Have you made any changes lately, big or small, that have been helping you improve your life or take better care of yourself? I’d love to hear about what you’ve been up to! Whether it’s a new fitness routine, a book you’ve started reading, or a new habit you’re building, your experience might just be the motivation someone else needs to try something new. Share them below—I can’t wait to hear them! 😊

I can’t run but…..I was tired of constantly being stiff & sore &
carrying extra weight so I did some reading & found out that walking provides several benefits:
Strengthening back & leg muscles.
Re lubricates the joints of ankles, knees & hips.
Improves blood flow to the extremities & brain.
Gives you the gift of endorphins, improving mood & happiness.
I walk 3 days a week for at least 30 minutes. The variety of trails here is wonderful & I have 3 that I walk regularly. A beach, a hilly track following the edge of a lake & a popular riverfront footpath.
In winter I walk in our local heated pool for the resistance & gravity support for my back. I have lost several kilos in weight. I recommend these activities regardless of age or spinal injury.

I had a significant accident and am left with restricted movement in my left leg and the need to wear orthotic shoes. This led me to Hydrotherapy in a heated pool (34 degrees) and Remedial Massage Therapy, which has helped immensely. I also have rods and screws in my back from another accident. Both help with my movement.

I have recently taken up Line Dancing. It is a bit of exercise, a good opportunity to get out and socialise, and it's always a lot of fun and laughs. It is always the highlight of my week. And my wife loves it too which is a nice bonus that we share.

I've started going to Move To Live exercise classes. I have arthritis in my spine, and mild scoliosis, so my mobility isn't great, I use a stick around the house and a four wheel walker if I am walking any distance. The classes are at a gym nearby, and, depending on how many turn up for each class, there are ten to fifteen different stations with weights, recumbent bike, steps, balancing, and other similar activities, and we do three to four rounds of each station, with stretching at the end. I finally made the full three circuits last week, so was pretty pleased with myself, and got a high five from the instructor! Now that it's cooling down, I'll take my walker and wander the neighbourhood a couple of times a week as well.

Why don't you try the heated pool all year round? It works for me.

I used to do that when I lived on the far south coast, the nuns used to come down from Canberra once a week, and I really enjoyed their classes. I also spent a few weekends at the Nan Tien Temple in Wollongong, where we did meditation, Tai Chi, calligraphy, and other activities.

It’s only heated in winter months & when it’s warm I do my hydrotherapy outback on the quays. I also do kayaking there.

I also meditate twice a day & have done so for 15 years. It helps immensely with focus & concentration. I was guided in the early days by a Buddhist nun while in Cairns.
The discipline helps me manage pain too.
