General Discussion Thread 11.04.2025

G’day! ☀️How are you this fine morning? We’ve made it to the end of the week, and I hope there’s something today that makes you smile—even if it’s just your first sip of your cuppa. Mornings can be tough, especially when the doona’s warm and the world outside isn’t calling sweetly. So tell me—how do you get out of bed in the morning? Do you have a clever trick, a strict routine, or a trusty alarm that does the job?

Let us know your tips here—we could all use a bit of help making mornings less painful!

I throw back the quilt & put my 2 feet on the floor & stand up! 🤣

My trusty alarm is my husband!! Since leaving his job of 40+ years as a marine engineer away at sea so much, he has been my ‘alarm clock’ that comes to my bedside with a lovely cup of hot coffee every day.

My alarm goes off every morning at 5.00a.m.
Has been my routine all my working life…I am always awake, waiting for the alarm ⏰

Own a cat that sleep inside but likes outside. Guarantee that you won't have a set time but you get up quick.
Meow Meow get up mum!

I go for a one hour walk every morning and seem to wake up and @ 6am EVERY morning as a result (no alarm required)
Put my feet on the floor - get dressed and go

Coffee, nice hot cup of coffee and if that dosen`t work another nice hot cup of coffee!

I struggle to wake up let alone get up. I’ve never been a morning person and now that it’s rare that I need to be up early I simply don’t usually arise before 8.30. My husband brings coffee back to bed between 7 & 7.30 so we have a chat & enjoy our coffee. Summer is easier but winter is a struggle. My husband has always been an early bird, but our son is just like me, even as a baby he’d sleep until at least 8am. I often wonder how I managed to actually get to work on time, with the washing on the line, beds made and dishwasher unloaded and re-stacked.

I too struggle and wonder how I got things done back in the good old days.

I have two alarms and it's the second one that gets me going. So, the alarm clock goes off and I roll over to shut it off. Then my four legged precious, jumps on my bed and snuggles into my back. I don't know how she knows but if I nod off to sleep she starts licking my forehead until I get up. Sometimes we have a lot of wrestling fun to get up.

Being retired we didn't need an alarm clock. We have inherited one. His name is Rusty a 10-year-old very small terrier and Deaf as a post. He was my father's dog. My father is now in Palliative Care and no one else offered to have him full time. When I was asked, I said yes, and little did I know an alarm clock was in the package deal. I Welcomed Rusty, not for my father or anyone else, I had Rusty for Rusty when things like this happen in life it's not the dog's fault they don't have a choice.

I have gotten up early every morning for years. I'm guessing it started with having so many kids

My routine now is awake 5.30 to 6 am make a coffee and have it in bed watching sunrise. I will at the same time read the sdc newsletter
