General Discussion Thread 05.03.2025

Hello, hello! Midweek is rolling in, and I hope your Wednesday’s cruising along smoothly. Have you ever had a song that stopped you in your tracks? I stumbled upon a breathtaking rendition of ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ by two phenomenal singers. It gave me goosebumps! Some songs become even more magical when given a fresh, powerful twist, eh? You can watch the video below:

Sounds of Silence by Disturbed. It's stunning, maybe a little different for Seniors, but still fantastic.
The words have become so much more powerful.

Read the reviews!

"1,045,296,847 views in 8 years, is 130,662,105 per year = 357,978 per day = 14915 per hour = 248 a minute. As it is over 4 minutes long, at any given time there are about 1000 other people listening to this at the same time. To the other 999 listening to it right now- hello."

"Paul Simon was so moved by this he gave him ownership of the song. It’s now his - what gifts to humanity these two are."

That was the first song that came to my mind also. I still get major chills even now 👍

Recovering from many trials in my life, the following was my mantra to recovery. Sir Laurence Olivier Narrating from thje Musical Time. Love to all at SDC Ox

I particularly like HSCC doing a cover of Neil young’s harvest moon. And the combined British marines doing their version of dire straits brothers in arms

Stunning!

In 1990, I went to Warringah Mall shopping centre in the northern beaches, walking from the 2nd level car park to the mezzanine level shops, this music started playing, and every single person that I could see just stopped dead in their tracks and listened. For many seconds no one moved or made any sound, gradually they moved closer to where the music was coming from. I looked over the rail and saw a man in a tubular rack of speakers, amps and playing multiple keyboards. His first tune played for over ten minutes and not a single person left. His name was Ken Davis, and the CD was called Atmospheres.

For me it’s always two songs - me & bobby Magee by Janis Joplin was such a different take to Kris Kristofferson‘s version.

The second is Whitney Houston’s version of I will always love you versus Dolly Partin’s original.

Whitney Houston singing I will always love you & Greatest love of all areas 2 beautiful songs that I have to stop and listen to both when I hear them playing on the radio.
