Move over, soft serve – there's a new 'ice cream' in town, and it's already made its way into the dessert section of one of our favourite grocery stores.
For the first time, ice cream giant Gelatissimo has made some of its most popular flavours available outside of its own locations. They have recently expanded nationwide to include Coles supermarkets, so you can now buy their tubs of ice cream in any Coles branch near you!

According to Filiz Kaya, Gelatissimo's Head of Product Innovation, they developed this range with their ‘loyal family of customers’ in mind.
‘We looked at our most popular flavours as well as ones that have stood the test of time, then also considered current trends both here and around the world to create this range.’
As part of its 20th-anniversary celebrations, the gelato chain has announced intentions to open more locations in Australia before the year is finished. Gelatissimo currently operates 42 locations in Australia and 26 more in other countries.

Folks, if you have ever visited Italy before and eaten ice cream in a local gelateria, you probably know the difference between regular ice cream and genuine gelato.
In comparison to store-bought ice cream, gelato (the Italian word for ice cream) is denser and smoother. It has less fat because it uses more milk than cream and is churned more slowly than ice cream, which means it also has less air.
As a result, an authentic gelato has a deeper flavour profile than ice cream and is so creamy—despite having less cream—that it melts on your lips as soon as you taste it. It's that good! (That's also why gelato prices are usually more expensive...)
But don't worry, folks, because it is totally possible to prepare gelato without any special equipment at all in the comfort of your own home! Watch the video below to learn how:
