Garbos collecting the rubbish

Back in the good old days, the rubbish collection was a genuine community affair that brought a smile to many Aussies' faces when they reminisced. Remember the 'garbos' and their lively calls echoing through the streets as they heaved those hefty bins? It was also a chance for a friendly wave or a quick chat—some folks even left a cold beer out as a token of appreciation! Back then, you'd see bins lined up, waiting for their turn, and the bond between locals and those hardworking garbos was heart-warming.

Sure, the modern trucks and automated systems are efficient, but there's a wistful longing for those days when the garbos were the neighbourhood's unsung champions, making streets clean and everyone's spirits soar.

Omg I remember the metal bins that you purchased yourself . I told you people of today don't know what they have including garbage bins.

My grandfather was a garbo truck driver and often got out and helped one day as he was lifting the bin up to empty it his finger got caught between the bin and truck and he lost his finger

Yes, the good old days waving to the garbo! I remember the milko and milk boy who assisted on the run. Glass bottles of milk. I recall the milk boy had a huge crush on me when I was 14 yrs old! My friend and I often caught him gazing through our kitchen window. He often forgot to leave our milk! He was in my class at school as well, but sorry milk boy where ever you are...you were not my type!

Weren't the garbos wonderfully happy chaps? They always had a smile and a cheerful whistle.
I also remember the dunny collectors and the day that my youngest was still sitting there when he arrived. He just said ok darling just stay put, won't take a sec. She was mortified and still blames me for not warning her 🤭
