Furniture giant releases limited edition item dedicated to Aussie homemakers!

IKEA has been synonymous with Swedish meatballs, the thrill of assembling flat-pack furniture, and the joy of finding clever, affordable home solutions.

This time, the Swedish giant has taken its iconic flat-pack concept to a whole new level, and it got Aussies talking, laughing, and racing to their stores.

In an ingenious move that's equally cheeky, IKEA Australia launched the world's first-ever flat-pack thongs—affectionately named the FLIP FLÖP.

These are not just any thongs, as they come in true IKEA fashion: unassembled.

IKEA's FLIP FLÖP is a commemorative product celebrating IKEA's 50th birthday Down Under.

According to Mirja Viinanen, IKEA Australia's CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer, the FLIP FLÖP was 'a playful blend of Swedish design and the Australian love for flip flops'.

'It's our way of saying thank you—and a reminder that after 50 years, we're just getting started,' Viinanen stated.

Thongs are a wardrobe staple for many Australians.

It's great footwear for beach days, backyard barbies, or just a daily walk around the neighbourhood.

IKEA's take on the iconic thongs gave it a uniquely Scandinavian twist.

The result? A fun and practical accessory that's sure to spark conversations with family and loved ones.

In true IKEA style, the FLIP FLÖP also comes with a three-step assembly instruction pamphlet.

Those who have put together IKEA's flat-pack furniture already know the drill.

IKEA first opened their Australian store in 1975 at St Leonards, Sydney.

Over the past five decades, the brand has become synonymous with affordable, stylish furniture and clever home solutions.

IKEA now has 10 stores across the country and has employed more than 3,900 people.

To mark this milestone, IKEA is throwing its biggest birthday bash yet.

Starting Saturday, 31 May to Sunday, 1 June, shoppers are invited to join in the festivities at their local IKEA store.

Expect exclusive offers like 50 per cent off the iconic POÄNG armchair series, 50-cent hot dogs, and plenty more surprises.

IKEA has become more than just a furniture store.

The Swedish brand is now part of Australian life, helping many Aussies—including seniors—create comfortable, unique, and welcoming homes.
