FSANZ recalls popular Korean BBQ marinades from shelves for dangerous labelling error

In a recent development that has left many Australian food enthusiasts on high alert, a popular range of Korean BBQ marinades has been pulled from the shelves of some of the nation's favourite supermarkets.

The products, staples in many households for an authentic Asian culinary experience, have been recalled due to significant labelling oversight.

The O’Food Korean BBQ Bulgogi Beef Marinade and Korean BBQ Spicy Pork Marinade, sold at Woolworths, Coles, and various independent retailers including IGA, were found to contain undeclared allergens.

Specifically, they were incorrectly labelled as gluten-free, which poses a serious health risk to those with gluten allergies or intolerances.

The affected 280g bottles carry best-before dates of April 16 and March 10 for the next year, respectively.

For those who are not aware, gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye, and oats.

It can cause a range of symptoms in people with celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity, from digestive issues to severe allergic reactions.

The importance of accurate food labelling cannot be overstated, as it is crucial for consumers who rely on this information to make safe dietary choices.

The recall has been issued nationally, meaning these products were distributed nationwide and could be in the pantries of many unsuspecting consumers.

If you have purchased either of these marinades, you can return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Food Standards Australia New Zealand, the statutory authority responsible for food safety, issued the recall and has advised that ‘Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice.’

The recent recall of Ofood Korean BBQ marinades from Woolworths, Coles, and IGA due to incorrect labelling highlights our supermarkets' ongoing food safety issue.

However, it's not just marinades causing concern. In another alarming development, a popular gluten-free bread has also been urgently pulled from shelves due to a harmful ingredient.

This recent recall further underscores the importance of vigilance when it comes to the ingredients in our food.

9. There is No Such Thing as Organic Canola Oil

It’s true that rapeseed plants smell so terrible, even the bugs don’t want it, so there’s no need to use pesticides, but that doesn’t mean it’s organic. Rapeseed must be processed with chemicals in order to make it palatable. You may have seen places like Whole Foods advertise that they are using “organic canola oil.” How is that possible when canola oil is made with hexane? Someone should ask them how this is possible. There is no such thing as organic canola oil, friends. See the infographic on choosing between organic and conventional eating.

I suppose canola oil comprises of molybdenum compounds with a dose of vanadium and cadmium.

But no! It is allegedly made from hexane. An aliphatic ORGANIC hydrocarbon!

I would love to know the numerous chemical operations showing me how canola oil is synthesised from hexane.

A fourth grader would have a better grasp of chemistry than the fraud who concocted this drivel!
