From lawns to lashes: Shocking business move by Jim's Mowing astonishes Aussies

When you think of the iconic Australian brand Jim's Mowing, what usually comes to mind is the trusty service we all know and are familiar with: mowing lawns and gardening.

It may surprise some of our members that Jim's Mowing has recently made an unlikely and unexpected business move. And it has left everyone scratching their heads in astonishment.

The company providing Australia with gardening, mowing and small business services since 1982 has decided to take a huge leap into the beauty industry, introducing its beauty franchise called Jim's Beauty.

Launched on November 1, Jim's Beauty offers many services, including teeth whitening, waxing, spray tans, manicures, pedicures, lash and brow tinting, and even facials.

They've also thoughtfully included a bridal package, complete with hair and makeup artists, to cater to the needs of brides on their special day.

In keeping with the convenience that Jim's Mowing is known for, Jim's Beauty offers a mobile service where a staff member comes to the customer's home.

However, customers also have the option to visit the franchisee's studio if they prefer. Prices start at $99 for each service, but individual franchises can quote their own prices.

This unexpected business venture has left many Australians in disbelief, as Jim's Mowing has been predominantly known for its gardening services. They also offer various services, including dog washing, finance, construction, cleaning, pool care, plumbing, car detailing, party hires.

In addition, they even have a podcast, fittingly named Jim's Podcast.

However, the intrigue the venture has caused has also sparked interest, with many expressing their curiosity to book a beauty appointment.

A video by a user named Sally, expressing her amusement and temptation to book a service, has garnered more than 1.4 million views in just three days, with hundreds of people enquiring about the service.

The public's reaction to this unexpected move has been overwhelmingly positive, with hundreds expressing admiration for Jim's entrepreneurial spirit.

'Jim's got that hustle,' one person commented, while another added, 'Jim is THE entrepreneur of our time.'

Another person said, 'My partner and I have been joking that Jim's would do this for years.'

A social media user named Josh asked if the business move was real in a video, to which the company replied: ‘Yeah bro, it’s real, very real.’

Despite the excitement, the service is currently only offered in limited locations. However, given the brand's history of expansion, it's likely that Jim's Beauty will soon be available in more areas.

Jim Penman, the founder of Jim's Mowing, started the company in 1982 with a mere $24 investment. Today, Jim's Group boasts over 5,000 franchisees across Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

It would need to be better than some of their gardening franchises.
Absolutely, the local Jim's Mowing did wonderful work... when he showed up.

Unfortunately showing up was something that he only did very occasionally.

Despite repeated reminders and calls to the Jim's call centre.

As a matter of interest... what did he charge and for what?

Don’t think I’ll bother. Stick to my regular hairdresser. As for the rest of the so called beauty treatments have never used them so won’t start now.

Written quote for mowing 350m² of lawn was $90.

But invoiced costs, ranged between $90, if less than 5 weeks since he last showed up, to $350 if he didn't show up for 8 weeks or more.

Verbal quote for pruning of whole garden was $120.

But invoiced costs were:
$220 for 12m of hedges and 2 small shrubs outside the fences, and
$385 for 4 trees and a further 8 shrubs inside the fences.
