Most of us can agree that winning a life-changing sum of money would be a dream come true.
Dreams of splashing the cash, flying off on exotic holidays and taking care of family - are just some of the luxuries in life that winning large sums of money could help make a reality.
That is probably the main reason why many people in Australia try their luck with the lotto. We all have this fantasy of being wealthy enough to buy anything we want, go anywhere we want to go, and so much more.
But how likely is it that you’ll win the jackpot? Almost impossible…right? Or is it?
Dion Davies from Wales never thought a life-changing sum of money was hiding in the back of his car.
The 47-year-old actor purchased a lottery ticket before Christmas but didn’t realise its value until he began taking everything out of the car before it was cleaned.
The valet told him to remove all of his belongings to avoid throwing away anything valuable, and during this process, Davies discovered the lottery ticket in his sun visor.
The happy winner recalled: ‘The guy told me to remove all of my belongings before he started just to be sure that he wouldn't throw away something valuable.’
'I'm glad he did because I discovered a multi-lottery ticket that I had purchased back in December,'
He decided to have it checked and found out he won £55,086 (approximately $96,200) after matching all five numbers plus one Lucky Star on Thursday 2nd February.
The winning numbers were 1, 11, 17, 20, and 27, with Lucky Stars 4 and 5.
After discovering his lotto win, Mr Davies wasted no time and rushed home to share the news with his wife, Ifana. The couple then proceeded to call The National Lottery to claim their prize.
‘When the person at the Lottery said it was a winner, we all went, together with a neighbour, for some lunch together, which of course included some fizz,’ he shared.
The unexpected yet fortunate discovery of the winning ticket came two weeks after The National Lottery formally declared the winning ticket unclaimed.
At the time, the unaware winner was performing as a dame in a ‘Sleeping Beauty’ Pantomime in Milford Haven.
Davies confessed that he had been buying a lottery ticket every week and that all of his numbers corresponded to the birth dates of his family members.
When asked about their plans for the money, the couple, along with their 15-year-old son, revealed that they had already decided to travel to Italy. Additionally, they expressed their desire to visit San Diego.
He said: 'Would I have left the ticket there if I had cleaned the car myself? Maybe, and I would have never claimed.’
‘As an actor, you always have “rest” periods, so the win has come in handy!'
This great story is surely a reminder to all of us to never stop trying our luck.
We might even end up with a nice wad of cash just by going to clean the car.
