The local community in Sydney’s Northern Beaches is reeling from the devastating and untimely death of much-loved local identity Jimmy Sagiotis.

Jimmy was the energetic and charismatic founder of Salty Rooster, a renowned Queenscliff restaurant that has attracted hordes of fans with its mouth-watering burgers and chicken since first opening its doors in 2005.

For locals, the loss of the 50-year-old father of two so soon after the tragic death of his wife Renee in 2017 is bitterly sad.

Jimmy first suffered a minor heart attack on Wednesday night. Even though his mum, sister and two young sons—10-year-old Harrison and 8-year-old Hudson—rushed to be by his side at the hospital, Jimmy's condition rapidly deteriorated as he suffered further catastrophic heart attacks requiring urgent care.

Despite the best efforts of medical staff, the damage proved too severe, and Jimmy heartbreakingly passed away.

The sudden loss has sparked an immense outpouring of grief across the tight-knit Northern Beaches community, where Jimmy was a huge presence thanks to his popular restaurant.

'VALE to this gentle soul. Jimmy experienced enough tragedy for any one person in a lifetime when he became a single Dad caring for his two young boys and trying to run his beloved (and iconic) Salty Rooster in Queensie,' local MP James Griffin emotionally posted on Instagram.

'I cannot believe it, such a shock and tragedy. An incredible dad and a member of our community. I've known Jimmy, his boys and their mum for many years and admire their family and values. RIP beautiful man,' said local business Beaches Healing on social media.

To support Jimmy's blended family through this difficult period, friends have organised a GoFundMe that has already raised over $26,000 of its $40,000 goal. This will assist with covering the unexpected funeral costs, as well as providing much-needed ongoing support.

'Jimmy lived an incredible life surrounded by love,' it says on the fundraising page.

'He never did things by halves, and after losing his late wife Renee in 2017, he dedicated himself to his boys while managing his business, Salty Rooster.'

'He then met and fell in love with Claudine, and together with her children, Eli and Amelie, they became the ultimate blended family. Claudine has lost her soulmate and best friend, and the children have lost their incredible father.'

The Facebook page for the Salty Rooster has been overwhelmed with messages of sympathy and encouragement.

Many people have gathered to remember Sagiotis, highlighting his gentle and friendly personality, often referring to him as 'one of the kindest individuals you'd ever come across'.

In addition, numerous individuals have shared their experiences of his exceptional customer service, recalling how he would give 'salty chips and the best laughs through some of the toughest times'.

Jimmy's funeral will be held next Tuesday at St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church in Mascot before he is laid to rest in Botany Cemetery.
