Former crew member lifts the lid on the 'creepiest' secrets about cruise ships — Here are the details of the DISTURBING revelation

We all know that cruise ships are full of activities and amenities to keep guests entertained, but what about the creepier secrets that are hidden below deck?

An Australian who spent a year working on a cruise ship has revealed some of the "craziest secrets" she learned during her employment.

The lesser-known information was provided by Lauren, who is currently residing abroad in the US, in a TikTok video that has amassed more than 870,000 views.

"There's some crazy stuff about cruise ships that you might not know about as a guest," she says in the clip.

Lauren then revealed that there are some "disturbing" finds inside cruise ships that guests could never think of existing inside such a luxurious vessel.

She continues: "It's kind of creepy - so there's a morgue on board, there's a jail on board."

Lauren then goes on to say that she saw a cadaver being wheeled out during one of her shifts.

"When we worked on a cruise ship, we actually saw a dead body getting wheeled out of the morgue, obviously they had a cover over it, but that in itself is so creepy and it made me not want to work on a cruise ship anymore," she narrates.

Although she found the experience "confronting," she acknowledged that terrible things might happen at any time, which is why a morgue is required.

She says: "And then they obviously have a jail cell - so if anyone's doing anything wrong, they'll just lock them in there."

Lauren also notes that certain cruise lines don't have a "deck 13" for superstitious reasons.

While the former cruise worker did not give any information on where the mortuary and jail are located, it is assumed that the two "creepy" spaces are located on the lower decks of the ship away from passengers.

The post has captured the attention of TikTok users, prompting hundreds of them to comment on the disturbing revelation.

One person wrote: “It makes sense to have a jail and a morgue? I don't know this doesn't seem weird to me.”

“Someone died on board our last cruise. They tried to keep it hush-hush as much as possible but word spreads fast on board,” another added.

A third said: “If you're scared of superstitious and the number 13 don't come to Canada - we don't have a 13th floor in an apartment building.”

Honestly, we’re not surprised that such “facilities” are present in cruise ships, given that some passengers board these luxurious water vessels for days (or even months) and unfortunate circumstances such as deaths and crimes cannot always be avoided.

In no way is that creepy. It's an essential part of life. It would be scary if they weren't on board

I genuinely find it very comforting. Imagine the smell and threat of disease if a dead body was left in a room for long. Also, having worked in mental health for a number of years, it is an absolute necessity to have somewhere to restrain someone, whether the cause is mental or drug addiction,

Back in 1979 when I was on the Fairstar, someone had passed on, and they put the person in the freezer.

I worked on cruise ships for 3 years back in the 80's. There was always a Brig (lock up area) and I knew of many passengers who would get thrown in there (especially when I worked on the Fairstar!) but they would be taken off the ship at the next port of call (which was usually only a day or two at the most). Can't remember ever seeing the morgue but of course it makes sense. Many passengers on the American cruises used to book a cruise knowing they were close to death and didn't want to pay taxes (due to being in international waters). I recall at least one death per cruise! It would be a worry and concern if the two (brig and morgue) didn't exist on cruise ships.

Its not creepy at all. A loved one lost his/her life, maybe a heartattack or a stroke. Why is it creepy? I don't think it is. It would have been sad to just leave the body in the cabin or put the body in a freezer in the kitchen !! As for a jail, yes please. People rob cabins, a drunk becomes violet, drugs, rape etc. This is actually good news that they have it on board.

I find it quite comforting that there are such places on the ships. Especially for very long voyages and those at sea and no land for several days, horrible to think that dead bodies where just left in their cabins or drunk and disorderly, thieves left to their own devices. That is more creepy. So sick of these people just trying to make a tik tok event. Total rubbish.

It is a fact of life people die every day everywhere even on cruise ships also people drink and take drugs and need to be put in jail occasionally what I find creepy on cruise ships is 95% Cruise company are based in countries that are tax haven. Contracting staff from Third World countries and only paying minimal wages, telling passengers they are green cruises this is a lie they may not dump sewerage and rubbish while they are in a Westernport but when they’re out in open water it’s all dumped over bored. Diesel from cruise ships is the foulest polluting fuel on the planet, cruise ships in third world countries keep their diesel motors running while in Port affectively killing up to 100,000 people a year with the diseases they catch from the diesel pollution. When passengers are Entertained by the natives and are able to buy their wears not one cent goes to the village all money from day tours goes to the cruise company this industry is one that needs to stop all old age and crewslings need to become a little more educated and stop enabling these companies to exist.
