Footy great celebrates daughter's wedding with emotional moments

Weddings are always emotional, especially for parents witnessing a new chapter unfold.

For one well-known figure, his daughter's special day brought mixed emotions in a stunning Queensland setting, leaving guests with unforgettable memories.

The heartfelt moments shared during the celebration added a layer of sentiment to an already memorable occasion.

Ruby Brownless, a lifestyle influencer with a significant following on social media, and her partner Josh Wallis, who hails from the renowned Western Bulldogs football family, tied the knot in a beautiful Sunshine Coast hinterland venue.

The couple, who got engaged in December 2022 and began their romance in 2019, celebrated their union in style, surrounded by friends, family, and of course, a few footy legends.

Billy Brownless, synonymous with Australian Rules Football and a beloved media personality with Triple M, was reportedly 'blubbering' during the emotional event.

His antics, described as 'frightening' by his long-time radio show partner James Brayshaw, became a talking point on Triple M's Saturday Rub.

Brayshaw, known for his playful banter, teased listeners with tales of Brownless' wedding behaviour, claiming to have spies reporting back on the details.

The wedding was a special moment for the Brownless family, with Billy walking his daughter down the aisle and even attempting to read a poem at the reception—an effort that, according to Brayshaw, may not have gone as smoothly as planned.

Despite the jibes about a wardrobe malfunction and his choice of refreshments, which included a shift from beer to vintage champagne and pina coladas, it was clear that the day was one of immense pride and love for the father of the bride.

Billy's partner, Crystle Fleur, was by his side. In a display of modern family dynamics, his ex-wife Nicky also attended with her fiancé, Garry Lyon, a former Melbourne Demons champion.

The presence of both parents and their respective partners at the wedding is a testament to the family's ability to come together for their children's milestones.

Brownless humorously addressed the financial aspect of the wedding on the radio show.

He confirmed that he and the Wallis family had split the costs of the wedding. With a laugh, he said he'd be working extra hours at Triple M to cover his share, expressing gratitude for the Wallis family's contribution.

'All I can say is thank god for the Wallis’ who have helped me out very well.' he said.

'They’ve been fantastic; we thought we’d split it down the middle, which is only fair and thank god for that.'

But Brownless himself shared that the highlight of the event was the emotional connection he felt on his daughter's big day.

Co-host Bernie Vince playfully referenced Brownless's tears, likening them to the Cats' overwhelming victory in the 2007 Grand Final.

Brownless responded with a touch of humour and sincerity, acknowledging the importance of showing emotion and how much his daughter means to him.

In true Brownless fashion, he did share a snippet of his poetic attempt, a simple yet heartfelt rhyme expressing his love for Ruby.

And despite a minor mishap with his shoe, which required some impromptu repair work, nothing could dampen the spirit of the proud father.

Billy Brownless's experience at his daughter's wedding reminds us that real human emotions and family bonds resonate with us all behind the public personas of our favourite sports stars and media personalities.

These moments of vulnerability and genuine affection genuinely capture the essence of family celebrations like weddings.
