Food Standards Australia recalls popular pea snack due to allergens

Navigating the snack aisle can be tricky, especially when shoppers have specific dietary needs.

Reading ingredient and nutrition labels is as crucial as savouring flavours.

The Food Standards Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ) recently recalled a popular snack due to the possible health risks it could pose to food lovers.

Calbee's Harvest Snaps Baked Pea Crisps have been pulled out from shelves across Australia due to undeclared soy allergens.

The recall affects both the original salted and salt and vinegar flavours, spanning package sizes including 120g, 200g, 230g, packs of 5x18g, and 50x18g.

The recalled batch had the best-before dates of January 25, 2025, January 26, 2025, and January 29, 2025.

The snacks have been available since June 6 at major retailers, including Woolworths, Coles, ALDI, Costco, and Amazon.

It is also available in petrol and convenience outlets such as 7-Eleven, as well as independent retailers like IGA.

If you have any of the affected products, you're entitled to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

FSANZ issued a recall notice on their official website and urged consumers who have a soy allergy or intolerance to avoid consuming the affected products.

'Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice. Consumers should return the products to the place of purchase for a full refund,' the recall notice wrote.

When a product contains an undeclared allergen, it means the labelling failed to inform consumers about all the ingredients.

This, in turn, could be dangerous for those with allergies.

Ingesting a small amount of an allergen could trigger reactions ranging from mild discomfort to life-threatening anaphylaxis.

Being vigilant about food recalls is especially important.

It's better to practise caution and stay informed about the latest food safety news.

If you happen to consume any of the Calbee Harvest Snaps Baked Pea Crisps variants, please seek medical advice.

You can also take them back to their place of purchase for a refund.
