Food safety alert: Authorities issue recalls for popular noodle brand and Woolworths protein bar

In a recent food safety development impacting consumers nationwide, two popular food products have been urgently recalled due to undisclosed allergens and the presence of foreign matter.

The recalls, issued by HenKing Foods Pty Ltd and Arrotex Pharmaceuticals, highlight the potential health risks posed to individuals with allergies or intolerances.

As authorities urge consumers to take immediate action, the affected products are being removed from shelves across various retailers, prompting concerns among those who may have purchased them.

HenKing Foods Pty Ltd issued an urgent recall for its Mr Lees Noodles Coconut Chicken Laksa due to the presence of an undeclared allergen—milk, which poses a serious health risk to consumers with allergies or intolerances.

The affected product, with a best-before date of June 14, 2024, has been available for sale across various platforms nationwide, including online sales, vending machines in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and New South Wales (NSW), Harris Farm, and independent grocery stores in NSW and Queensland (QLD).

‘Any consumers who have a milk allergy or intolerance may have a reaction if the product is consumed,’ Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) stated in its new alert.

‘Consumers who have a milk allergy or intolerance should not consume this product.’

‘Consumers should return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice,’ they added.

In addition, there's another food safety alert issued by the FSANZ.

The product in question is the 28GO Go Bar Triple Choc Protein 55g, which has been a popular choice for many looking for a quick and satisfying snack.

Unfortunately, this particular protein bar, sold at Woolworths supermarkets across Australia, has been found to contain a foreign matter—plastic, to be precise.

On Tuesday, April 30, FSANZ sounded the alarm, urging consumers to steer clear of the affected batch.

The recall specifically targeted the bars with a best-before date of 28/06/2024.

It's crucial to note that no other batches have been implicated in this recall, so if you have a bar with a different best-before date, it should be safe to eat.

‘Consumers should not eat this product,’ the FSANZ stated.

They also said that the product ‘may cause illness or injury if consumed’.

If you happen to have one of these bars in your pantry, it's advised that you do not eat it.

Instead, you should return it to your local Woolworths store, where you'll be entitled to a full refund.

For those who may be feeling unwell or are concerned about the potential health implications of having consumed the product, seeking medical advice is recommended.

For more detailed information, you can visit the Food Standards Australia New Zealand website.

Additionally, Arrotex Pharmaceuticals, the company behind the 28GO Go Bar, provided a customer service contact for any further inquiries.

You can reach them at (03) 8419 3491 or via email at [email protected].
