In the ever-evolving world of culinary delights, Australian supermarkets quickly catch on to the latest trends that tantalise people's taste buds.
Two of the country's retail giants have responded to a 'growing demand' for a particular item that's now taking centre stage.
Gone are the days when pistachios were merely a humble nut to be cracked open during a casual snack time.
These green gems have become the 'hottest flavour' in recent months.
The pistachio appreciation trend recently swept through the aisles of Coles and Woolworths like wildfire.

To keep up with the soaring demand, both supermarkets have begun stocking their shelves with all things pistachio-flavoured.
'We have noticed a real buzz around pistachio lately. It's popping up in everything from desserts and snacks to savoury dishes,' a spokesperson for Woolworths shared.
'At Woolworths, we're always looking to introduce exciting new flavours and products that inspire our customers, and we're thrilled to be expanding our range to meet this growing demand.'
Last year, Woolworths launched its Pistachio Cheesecake.
The product immediately became a fan favourite, as they sold 'more than 80 per cent of the first batch in the first three weeks'.
They also released supermarket-exclusive Messina gelato tubs, with the Pistachio Praline variety emerging as the top flavour pick among shoppers.
Yet, it's not just desserts that are getting the pistachio treatment.
Melbourne-based food content creator Ange Eats shared that pistachio sandwich spread has emerged as a new favourite, surpassing the likes of Biscoff and Nutella.
'This shift is largely driven by increasing consumer demand for healthier, more natural alternatives to sugary, heavily processed spreads,' Ange shared.
The rise in popularity of pistachios has also been attributed to consumers becoming more adventurous with their food choices.
Brands like Pistachio Papi made waves in the industry as people started looking for new flavours to try.
Food content creator Nectro Vlangos pointed out that while pistachio spreads and creams have been popular in Italy, it's exciting to see Australian shoppers and food lovers catching on.
Coles also rode the pistachio wave and started offering a variety of pistachio-flavoured products.
Apart from desserts and spreads, Coles also carried pistachio and almond butter spread and Little Moons' Honey Roasted Pistachio Frozen Mochi—a unique blend of Asian flavours with the said product.
'We have seen a noticeable trend in customers seeking pistachio-flavoured food items,' a Coles spokesperson said.
'We're working to meet this demand and offer products in this flavour to be enjoyed.'
While not everyone is on board with the pistachio trend, someone pointed out that 'food goes through trends, same as fashion.'
