Are you confident that your home is spotless?

You may need to think again if you haven’t given the space around your toilet a thorough clean lately.

An enlightening clip recently posted by a cleaning expert on social media lays bare just how much hidden filth can accumulate in this overlooked area—and it certainly isn't for the faint-hearted.

In her now-popular video, the cleaning expert comes armed with some rubber gloves and a spray cleaning solution to demonstrate just how much grime can accumulate around the toilet.

With a deft spray and efficient wipe in an 'S' pattern, she turns a pristine white cloth into a disgustingly yellowed rag.

She captioned the video, ‘Satisfying deep clean of bathrooms today. We always clean the surfaces around the toilet for this exact reason!’

The video rocked the internet, garnering reactions ranging from horror and disbelief to more pragmatic folks who raised the need for frequent bathroom cleaning.

One commenter noted, 'I did not expect that.'

Another jokingly said, 'So [you all are] just keep adding things to my already long cleaning list.'

‘The way my eyes popped out of my head,’ a third expressed.

For those suggesting a solution to evade such hidden dirt, they all advocate for males in the household to use the toilet while seated.

‘I raised my son to sit. 19 years old now, and I clean my walls weekly. They have never looked like this. Except when I was dating. Which I don't do now,’ one woman wrote.

Some also recommended closing the lid before flushing, reducing the likelihood of particles from the toilet bowl spraying onto other surfaces.

‘That's why I always flush with the lid down, and ask everybody else to do the same. Home or not, anywhere really,’ another female said.

On the other hand, some individuals already engage in cleaning practices around the toilet, with suggestions ranging from using disinfectant and enzyme cleaners to opting for paper towels for easy disposal.

Despite efforts to keep the toilet area tidy, there remains a possibility of germs, dust, and dirt accumulating on nearby surfaces.

Therefore, it's advisable to clean the exterior of the toilet akin to the interior, starting with dusting, followed by applying disinfectant, allowing it sufficient time to work, and then wiping the surface clean.

The day I wipe the wall at the back of the toilet bowl will be the day I have a miracle recovery from scoliosis and arthritis.
I'm afraid, until I come into an un-expected inheritance, there will be no cleaner paid to do it for me.
In this case, I will have to let sleeping dogs lie.
Maybe another cleaning guru will come up with a toilet curtain to hang at the back of the loo.
Oh me...oh my.

I use a spray bottle with diluted disinfectant in it and spray the walls near the toilet, the outside areas of the toilet and the floor every time I clean the toilet. I have a short handled cleaning pad I use on the walls and parts of the toilet, a dish mop I use on the bends etc on toilet and a normal cotton mop I use on the floor.
