I sat fishing looking across the open channel at Brunswick Heads a couple of years back, looking over as I did, towards a guy with his rod bent almost back on itself and then l saw it a monstrous sized fish at least four foot - five feet long in the old measurement hanging there.
It was certainly not a shark, it was right up under the lip of the big flat inward slanting slab, that he stood behind. I watched as he handed the rod to a smaller person and climbed out onto the rock where his line went over, reached over and then he CUT THE LINE!
His hand must've almost touched the mouth of the fish. He then walked back and sat as if to set up his hooks again, totally unaware that he really did just let go of a thirty of forty pound something. it was remarkable that he never knew how close he was to catching such an amazing sized fish. He must have thought he had snagged seaweed...
