Find out why this Home and Away star's air fryer cleaning hack is causing such a stir online
If you’re a fan of the popular show Home and Away, you would know that one of its stars, Ada Nicodemou, is constantly in danger in Summer Bay.
Leah Patterson, the character she plays, has had quite a rough time in life—to list down Leah’s challenges would take ages!
But, this time and in real life, it seems Ada has unintentionally put herself in harm’s way after sharing a controversial cleaning technique online.
Ada took to social media recently to share the air fryer cleaning trick she learnt from a friend.
She demonstrated this trick in a video, which involved putting water, a dishwashing tablet or powder on the air fryer and then setting it to 15 minutes to clean.
She showed the final result of her cleaning experiment, in which it appeared her air fryer came out ‘pretty clean’, noting that the appliance was not very dirty.
But others quickly pointed out that this method may not be the best way to keep your air fryer clean.
Social media users were quick to point this out, with one commenting: ‘No, ours broke from doing this. The water moisture damaged the elements in mine. Almost set fire.’
‘It’s actually dangerous to do this, and there have been warnings about it before,’ another said.
‘I can't seriously believe people are st**** enough to think doing this is safe,’ a third person stated.
Meanwhile, others have shared their ways to clean the appliance. One social media user wrote: ‘Silicone thing for inside the basket works too. Then you wash the silicone, not the basket.’
‘Try soaking it in boiling hot water and morning fresh. Let it sit for 5-10 mins. Then wipe off the food. It works,’ another person suggested.
‘Dishwasher. Or just plain dish soap with warm water, soak for 5 [minutes] and dry. Done!’ another shared.
Consumer Reports (CR) recommends that air fryers be cleaned after every use, and some brands have dishwasher-safe components.
But as each air fryer will offer different cleaning instructions, Larry Ciufo, an air fryer tester in CR, suggested the following tips to keep your air fryer in top condition:
CR also has tips for any lingering orders in your air fryer. According to NewAir, the manufacturer of Magic Chef air fryers, soaking the food basket and drawer in soapy water for 30 to 60 minutes before cleaning again could remove the persistent smell.
If that doesn’t work, cut a lemon in half, rub it over the basket and drawer, let it sit for 30 minutes, and then rewash.
