Fact of the Day: This movie was inspired by Tasmania!

As the saying goes, art imitates life, and for this 1990 film, it was inspired by the vast lands of Tasmania.

Tasmania Story (1990) was a story about a Japanese boy looking for his estranged father who moved to Australia.

While the boy's father initially moved to Sydney, he later receives news that his father has relocated to Tasmania.

From there, the protagonists story revolved around family matters, and how he started to appreciate a more laid-back life.

Tasmania Story won multiple awards after its release, and subsequently boosted tourism in the island state.

Today, one of Tasmania Story's iconic sets is still standing. Here's a look at the movie's iconic home decades after the acclaim movie's premiere:

I was totally unaware of this movie, so found the clip rather interesting. I wonder if it was a good movie, as a lot of stuff produced down here is a bit different, think the Kettering Incident, Mystery Bay etc. A couple of years back we watched a movie that our son had, set in Oatlands, for those familiar with Tassie, it was about life in very early 1800,s. The movie was set when the troops had control of most things, especially in isolated areas, where their treatment of people was appalling. The movie was harrowing to watch, but the three of us were glad that we saw it. I can’t remember what it was called.
I can remember travelling to Hobart and stopping in Oatlands for a break, on leaving we wondered why the Main Street was covered in gravel, & old carriages and wagons were parked everywhere. Apparently filming hadn’t long wrapped up. Oatlands doubled as a very early Launceston 😂
I must search for the movie‘s title, not that I want to watch it again.
