Andrew Carnegie believed so strongly in the power of free education that he gave away 90% of his fortune to build thousands of libraries worldwide. It’s even rumoured that the Melbourne suburb of Carnegie named itself after him in hopes of securing funding for a library. Unfortunately, the plan didn’t work—but you can’t blame them for trying!
