Electric Skillet

Memory Lane - Growing up in Australia/Facebook

Who remembers this trusty old electric skillet? Every Aussie household had one. This skillet was the star of Aussie family dinners, from Mum's sizzling bacon to her fluffy pancakes. Do you still have one of these? Share your memories with us below.

I had one of these when I was first married and used it for everything. It’s long gone, unfortunately but was so good for making pikelets.

Wow I use mine all the time especially for chicken chow mien. It’s about 40 years old and still going strong.♥️

I can remember my family having one of these Fry Pans. I seemed to be able to cook anything from the humble pikelet to a roast meal.

Mum's was a permanent fixture on the Kitchen bench from Roasts to bubble & squeak with leftovers, pancake stacks to fill up 4 sports mad kids Cheap! It was still working when we gave it away at the end of 2022 after mum died. Mum knew where to set the temp even though the print had worn off.

Mine went out to kerb collection after giving up on us last week after just over 40 years of faithfull service.

Those things made some great stuff but none greater than the good old pikelets of which i used to have animal shapes and or first initials made out of the left over batter at the end! Fantastic job.

My mum had one, she cooked everything in it and when I first married, many years ago she gave me one. Excellent for roasts, chow mein & could make the perfect pikelets. Long gone now, unfortunately.

Yeah still got one it's been collecting dust for the last 5 years

If mine dies I’m going to plant micro herbs or small cacti in it and put it on my table outside where I have my coffee. I couldn’t throw it away.😊 Not after 40 odd years.

That's not an electric skillet, which is an American term. That's a fry pan; a Sunbeam fry pan to be more exact.

We do know that but please don’t be so picky on people’s wording. Thankyou.😊

I get annoyed by Australian terms being Americanized. It's called "cultural imperialism". Toilet/bathroom, died/passed, plenty more examples.
