Electric Ceramic Jug

That vintage thermal coffee jug brings back such memories! Many had one just like this, pouring endless cups of hot coffee or tea for family gatherings. It was built to last, and some of us even went the extra mile to keep it going—like replacing the heating element to ensure it stayed in action. They truly don’t make them like they used to!

My grandmother had a number of these including one shaped like a kookaburra which was a bit of a rarity.
Don’t use them anymore, but I do see them in antique shops.

I have two of what was the "two cup version". The element was a coiled wire type and was easily replaced. Good conversation starters. Not game to use them today as I don't know if those elements are still available.

As an electrician, I think back to my dad boiling his ceramic jug on the stainless steel sink and it vigoursly boiling away and water running down the outside .... remember the water in those old jugs is alive at 250 volts not like modern kettles that are insulated. People were a lot tougher back then ...
