Elderly DoorDash driver's heartbreaking reaction to customer's tirade goes viral

Service workers are the backbone of our economy. They work long hours for little pay and are constantly at the mercy of their employers. Unfortunately, this often leads to them being mistreated.

Whether it's being denied a break, being yelled at, or having their pay withheld, service workers are all too often the victims of abuse.

That's why it's heartbreaking every time we witness a blue-collar worker being mistreated by the very same customers they help.

Speaking of which, an upsetting video of an elderly DoorDash delivery driver who was yelled at by a customer has recently gone viral on social media.

While receiving a lunch delivery, Melbourne resident Mark Polchleb accidentally upset an elderly food delivery worker by yelling, "Get away from the door, mate."

In the footage, the elderly employee can be seen walking up to the door with a bag of food and asking Mr Polchleb whether he would like it left there.

The elderly employee was then seen responding with an apology before walking away.

After looking at security footage, Mr Polchleb realised his angry behaviour was misinterpreted and was actually meant for his dog, prompting him to take to TikTok to issue explain the case and issue an apology.

“Can someone please tell this sweet sweet Uber Eats [DoorDash] man I was yelling at my dog and not at him,” he said on the video.

Additionally, the Melbourne man also captioned the post with: “I’m genuinely losing sleep over this. He was so sweet and my dog is a menace.”

In a remarkable turn of events, the internet was able to locate the worker — whose name was later revealed as Sami — barely one day after the video made the rounds on TikTok after a relative recognised him.

It was also revealed that Sami learned of the reason why he got yelled at through the relative who discovered the original video.

Mr Polchleb exclaimed in a follow-up video: “MAJOR UPDATE. We found Sami!!!!!! Thank you so much, TikTok. I love this community! I’ll keep you all posted after my opportunity to connect!”

The DoorDash customer went on a trip as well to thank Sami in person.

The elderly employee's fortune also significantly improved when his employer commended him for his outstanding efforts.

A DoorDash representative said: “️We’re so inspired by your love and kindness for Sami that we’re going to award him Top Dasher status for life and extra Dasher pay.”

Sami also got media attention for a GoFundMe campaign he started to support the costs for his visit to France, his homeland, where his son is currently residing.

So, there you have it, folks! This story just goes to show that fate can be fickle — sometimes it knocks you down to make room for new opportunities.

What a lovely story. I had a doordash young guy drop our order of the other day and he asked me if I knew what he had to do. It was his first delivery and wasn't sure if he had to confirm delivery completed. I didn't know so I asked my 17 year old and she showed him straight away , apparently they have to confirm delivery completed, how did my daughter know to do this? It has happened a few times and she helped someone work it out. The moral of my story , they need to train their poor delivery drivers
