According to Queensland police, the incident occurred around 11:30 pm on Monday when the four hooded men, armed with baseball bats and a firearm, smashed a glass sliding door to gain entry into the couple's home.

Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Mansfield said that the couple could not call the authorities and had to drive nearly 30 minutes to Caboolture Police Station to report the attack.

'Pretty harrowing for them to drive under those circumstances, but they felt that was the best opportunity for them to report the matter,' Sergeant Mansfield said.

The man was taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital and was discharged on Tuesday morning. The couple, understandably terrified, have returned home, while their family members have declined to comment about the incident.

Sergeant Mansfield said it was unclear if this 'terrifying' and 'really violent' crime was targeted or the result of a mistaken address.

'It seems a very strange happening for them. There is no indication that there was any animosity between them or any other persons that they're aware of,' he said.

‘They’re pretty terrified, obviously.’

The police are currently investigating the incident and are appealing to the community for help.

Sergeant Mansfield said they didn’t know if the four men left in a car or on foot.

'We're really hoping that someone in the community observed something,' he said.

'Some dashcam [footage or] any CCTV in the area will be really helpful.'

A business nearby, run by the victims' son-in-law, provided security footage to police.

The intruders are described as 'potentially in their 20s', and forensic investigators collected fingerprints in the house on Tuesday afternoon.

Glad I was born when I was, you didn't have to lock your doors, there was hardly any crime.
Things get worse day by day, I feel sorry for my grandchildren that they have to live in such a world.
Having to worry about being attacked in your own home, bashed in the street by strangers for no reason, road rage, domestic violence, stabbings, murders every day on top of having to worry about being scammed.
Young girls can't even enjoy a night out without worrying about having their drink spiked.
We even have children as young as 10 committing these crimes.

it is disgusting the way the Courts treat them when the Police have caught them for these break ins, or assaults or stolen goods from homes in particular Cars worth thousands of dollars....the Courts are following this woke attitude of the states Premiers and let these kids off with a warning, not even a conviction and the kids just take to the streets again and continue doing the same thing over and over with no fear of prosecution....the Courts have to harden up on these juveniles and their parents......the victims never receive compensation for damaged property or stolen goods that are not found. The Courts must change in order to protect the community.

Sunshine Coast is as bad as Brisbane for break ins. My son & his wife built their home in Glasshouse and within 5mths of moving in they had a couple of males break in and steal jewellery, sunglasses, shoes, handbags, a safe containing cash & valuables, their son's ipad and their beloved Holden Commodore. (Car was recovered a week later, it was a write off) This happened in the middle of the day on a Saturday not 20mins after they had left their home to visit me. They hadn't yet installed security cameras or had their front fence erected so their dog was tied up around the opposite side of the house to where these oxygen thieves broke in. They had to have been professionals and very quiet as according to the neighbour who didn't realise what was happening, the dog never barked and he HATES STRANGERS so he would have gone ballistic if he'd heard them. Even scares me sometimes when I go to visit them. They only targeted the main bedroom and knew exactly where to look for the car keys so I often wonder if it was someone who had been to the house to do work and had cased the place while there.

The fact that they carried any sort of weapons constitutes armed robbery makes it aggravated and specially aggravated break and enter and provides for an offence of greater seriousness still where a person commits an offence circumstances of special aggravation, whereas the alleged offender wounds or maliciously inflicts grievous bodily harm on any person. So it is not a simple break and enter.
