Effortless trick for a sparkling clean washing machine using a common household item!

Did you know that deep cleaning your trusty washing machine is just as important as cleaning your clothes?

Over time, those sneaky detergents and fabric softeners can cause buildup and gunk inside the machine, leading to inefficiency and longer wash times.

A deep clean will remove the buildup and prevent unpleasant odours. Not only that, but it will also extend the life of your washing machine by preventing corrosion and other damage.

And the best part? You don't need to be a cleaning expert to do it. Just take a cue from this Brisbane mum who has taken the internet by storm with her 'genius' and easy-peasy method for deep cleaning her washing machine.

Interior stylist Liz Amaya regularly shares her tips and tricks on Instagram, and she has recently revealed a secret weapon that will leave your washing machine sparkling like new.

All you need? Just two simple dishwashing tablets! That's right, folks. No fancy chemicals or complicated instructions. Just pop in those tablets and let the magic happen.

How does she do it? It's pretty simple.

1. Drop two dishwashing tablets into your empty machine.

2. Wash it on a hot cycle.

It's that easy! As Liz suggests, your washing machine will be as clean as can be afterwards, plus your laundry will no longer bear incriminating white marks. What's even better is that this trick can be used whether you have a front or top loader.

Liz swears by this method and deep cleans her washing machine once a month, ensuring that her appliance always runs at its best. So, don't let your washing machine be a source of stress!

Many of her followers have already tried the method, with some saying that it works like a charm. Others are keen to try the cost-effective hack, with some saying they had already been planning to purchase expensive formulated washing machine cleaners.

'Genius, I was about to buy an expensive washing machine cleaner! Thank you!' One person wrote, while another commented, 'Thank you for sharing, I am definitely giving this one a go.'

One follower also asked Liz if there was a trick for dealing with odours, to which she suggested adding half a cup of baking soda to the empty drum and repeating the cycle.

While this hack may seem like a quick and easy solution, it's important to remember that not all cleaning methods are created equal.

Some homeowners raised concerns about using dishwashing tablets in a washing machine, as these products are not specifically designed for this purpose.

Using the wrong cleaning product can have consequences, such as damaging your machine or leaving behind residue that could transfer to your clothes.

That's why it's crucial to always read the manufacturer's instructions before trying out any new cleaning method.

What should I use to deep clean your washing machine?

To deep clean your washing machine, you can use a cleaning solution specifically designed for washing machines, such as an all-purpose appliance cleaner, or a combination of white vinegar and baking soda.

Appliance cleaner

Follow the manufacturer's instructions on the label to use an all-purpose appliance cleaner. These cleaners are designed to remove buildup and residue, and they often come in tablet or liquid form.

White vinegar and baking soda

Mix equal parts white vinegar and baking soda to create a cleaning solution. Run an empty cycle with hot water, then add the cleaning solution to the drum. Let it sit for an hour, then run another hot water cycle to rinse the drum and dispensers.

Regardless of the cleaning method you choose, always be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for cleaning your washing machine. By deep cleaning your washing machine regularly, you can keep it running efficiently and prevent the growth of mould and bacteria.

How often should I clean my washing machine?

A little TLC goes a long way when it comes to keeping your appliance in tip-top shape. Giving your washing machine a deep clean once a month (or every 30 wash cycles) is a simple and effective way to keep it running smoothly.

But don't worry, this cleaning process is a breeze! Simply follow the steps mentioned above and you can make sure your machine stays fresh and clean.

While bleach can also be used, it's not the best option. Not only can it leave behind a toxic residue, but it can also clog up your plumbing. So, it's best to opt for a more natural and friendly cleaning solution.

I only use Vinegar now. I have tried so many different things. Store bought cleaners for the washing machine - never again. They actually made it worse. Followed the instructions but ended up with a machine full of suds which took ages and many rinses to get rid of. Tried Tricleanium - too harsh. Top tip from a mechanic, NEVER EVER use fabric softener in your machine. It leaves residue behind.

I run a rinse cycle through my machine using only vinegar every time I finish my washing, this keeps the machine clean and gets rid of any odours.

I use a cup of white vinegar in the wash once a month. Cleans inside the drum plus the hoses.
