Effective chemical-free way to catch fruit flies
Like most people, I love my fruit though the tiny flies they attract drive me crazy. When shopping, I was searching for a product that wasn't expensive or chemical pungent and was unable to find anything suitable. Then I remembered my few years in Mississippi USA where the temperature is the same as here in Brisbane and we also had those darn flies. Aunt Ruby showed me her cheap hack - and it works!
In a tiny bowl/bottle top etc, around the size of a 20/50 cent piece, pour a desert spoon amount of apple cider vinegar and a tiny drop of dishwashing liquid in the centre. It is important that you do not move or swirl the liquid so ensure the bowl is where you want to capture the flies.
The sweetness of the vinegar attracts the flies and the dishwashing liquid is like glue and they cannot fly back out. Walk away so the flies are not darting around and after an hour or so, count how many you catch!
Wash the bowl and repeat when necessary. So inexpensive and no chemicals.
