Duchess Camilla attends Oldie of the Year Awards ceremony - an award the Queen graciously turned down because she believes ‘you’re only as old as you feel’
Age is just a number, according to 95-year old Queen Elizabeth II who graciously turned down an award she believed she could not accept as she 'didn't believe she met the relevant criteria’.

Shortly after the news of her majesty declining the award, her daughter-in-law, Camilla, arrived at the Oldie of the Year Award ceremony in London on Tuesday afternoon.

Wearing a stylish navy dress paired with black tights and pumps, the 74-year old Duchess of Cornwall presented the awards to this year’s winners.

The Oldie of the Year Award is awarded annually by Oldie Magazine to older people who contributed in their own respective fields.

Last year’s winner, Downtown singer Petula Clark, had a successful eight-decade long career in show business. Meanwhile, the Oldie of the Year Award winners this year include Delia Smith, Bob Harris, Barry Humphries, Margaret Seaman, Roger McGough, Dr Saroj Datta, Dr Mridul Kumar Datta and Sir Geoff Hurst.

Penning the invitation for the Queen, Oldie of the Year Awards chairman Gyles Brandeth, wrote to her majesty’s private secretary Sir Edward Young to ask if the monarch would be willing to accept the Oldie of the Year award.

However, the Queen declined the invitation in a letter penned by her private secretary Tom Laing-Baker to which he wrote: ‘Her Majesty believes you are as old as you feel, as such The Queen does not believe she meets the relevant criteria to be able to accept and hopes you will find a more worthy recipient.'

The letter is published in Oldie Magazine’s November issue.

The award invitation came after a busy few weeks for the Queen who just had a video call with the new Governor-General of New Zealand, Dame Cindy Kiro, on Monday.

Adding to the busy schedule of the Queen, her majesty was in attendance at the QIPCO British Champions Day to which she was seen in great spirits wearing a traditional blue ensemble on Saturday.

The Queen was in great spirits as she arrived at the Ascot Racecourse to attend the QIPCO British Champions Day on October 16, 2021.
In her majesty's recent engagements, she was spotted using a walking stick. However, over the weekend, she ditched the walking stick and opted for an aide who walked closely behind her instead.

Haha. That was the best reply. Anyway isn't it 'Ageist' to have an award like that? After all, most other things are something-ist these days.
