Drivers licences

Just heard this morning from a elderly lady, her sister received a letter from the department in NSW stating that NSW, VIC, and parts of QLD she was saying as from the 1st of august 2025, all people over 60 have to have a full medical to drive now, does anyone know anything about this please?

Hi @bird65 ! According to what I found online, there’s no official rule starting 1st August 2025 that requires all people over 60 to have a full medical to drive. In NSW, VIC, and QLD, current requirements only kick in from age 75, when a yearly medical is needed. Some states also require an on-road test from age 85. So far, there’s no confirmed change to lower that age to 60, it sounds like there may have been a misunderstanding. Always best to check directly with your state’s transport department if you get a letter or want to be sure.
Hope this helps clear things up! For more information, you may visit https://www.nsw.gov.au/driving-boating-and-transport/driver-and-rider-licences/older-drivers-and-riders/assessments. I hope this helps. 💖
