Drive-Ins​

Do you remember drive-ins? It was a popular way to watch the latest movies from the comfort of your car. During the interval, people would line up for a snack such as pie with sauce, a frankfurt in a roll, sandwiches, coffee, and many more. Most people would dress up in their best clothes, but some would even wear dressing gowns and pyjamas!

During the interval, people would line up for a snack such as pie with sauce, a Frankfurt in a roll, sandwiches, coffee, and many more. Most people would dress up in their best clothes, but some would even wear their dressing gowns and pyjamas. It was a fun outing for the whole family.

No Names, no Pack Drill?

Not sure we actually watched much of the movie what was the Code , ah yeh if it's a rocking don't come a knocking .

We still have one drive in left in Sydney in Blacktown , different now though , no more huge speakers to connect to your window. You only need to turn on your radio

Look at those prices : "pie and sauce with coffee 1/9 "(one shilling ninepence); "Assorted sandwiches with coffee 2/-" (two bob). I haven't converted those amounts to current currency equivalents, but my guess is that it will now be a lot dearer.

Last time I went , maybe 3 years ago , food was horrible and very expensive

I remember going to the drive in when I was a young girl I would go with my family at interval mum would buy some hot chips and we would have a hot chip sandwich that was our takeaway food back then remember the big speakers too

Big heavy speakers just had to remember to take them off your window before you drove off.

I remember going to the drive in at Matraville in Sydney and at the end of the movie someone drove off with the speaker attached to their car. I think it happened a few times. The good thing for parents with young kids was if they got sleepy the kids could just be tucked up in the back of the car and Mum and Dad could still have a night out.

I remember Matraville drivein , it was actually one of the first to close then Bass Hill was next

Went to the drive-in with a hot date, but didn't check the movie, and the movie, Battle of Britain was all killing and destruction, and we both felt quite miserable by the end of the movie. Didn't get a second date.
