Dress to impress on a budget: Fashion guru styles versatile winter look with only four affordable buys

A lot of us think that fashion and fortune go hand in hand. While in many cases the idea does apply, there are also many cheaper workarounds for looking like a showstopper that won’t break the bank – and one fashion guru is living proof.

Lucy Carrington is a fashionista with an unmatched passion for curating eye-catching outfits. But what makes her stand out from the rest is her natural knack for finding hidden gems in department stores.

Recently, she shared how easy it is to put together a chic look on a budget with four affordable buys from Kmart.

‘It's all about the styling!’ she captioned her now-viral TikTok video.

To achieve the look, Lucy got her hands on a loose-knit jumper ($15), long sleeve relaxed dress ($15), double-ringed belt ($8), and tall microsuede-heeled boots ($35).

She tried on the dress first followed by the boots, before wiggling into the loose-knit jumper.

'The dress is actually quite long on me, but a simple trick can be used to shorten it,' she can be heard saying in the clip.

She proceeds by buckling the belt high on her waist, over the top of the dress and jumper, and then carefully tugging the jumper and the dress upwards until the knit layer droops over the belt.

'Just pull the knit jumper up. If the dress length is the perfect length for you, then you don’t need to pull the dress up with the jumper,’

‘As you can see, it shortens the length of the dress [and the jumper] and it also gives me a little shape.’

All of the items she got are available in several shades as well, which allows for a vast number of individual preferences.

Lucy’s TikTok video was well-received by thousands of fellow fashion enthusiasts, amassing nearly 700,000 views and over 33,000 comments.

‘This is such a good hack! Thank you.’ one person said.

‘That's actually cute as f***!’ another added alongside a heart emoji.

‘I have the boots and the belt. I’m off to get the jumper and dress now!’ declared a third.

‘Okay, wow – you look amazing!’ praised a fourth.

‘I really like it when you can see the belt as well,' added one woman. 'Looks super cute both ways!'

As this is a Seniors newsletter I can barely contain my mirth....LOL...most would look like mutton dressed as lamb in tht outfit.

Some of its a bit "young" fashion, but I didn't mind the cream pants with the kahkii cardigan, I'm in early 60s and don't want to look like mutton dressed as lamb, but don't want to look frumpy and older than I am either.... she probably needs to slightly alter the looks for the age group on here though.
