Dream Car

I drove a 1953 Citroen Goddess. It was manumatic and had no clutch. I took my foot off the accelerator, flicked a very small lever ( about the size of my little finger) on the top of the dash behind the steering wheel and changed the gear then put my foot back and continued accelerating. It was VERY fast. and could get up to a hundred miles per hour with ease. I was extremely careful to drive within the speed limits. At that time, speed limits were only enforced within city limits.

My dad only ever owned big chevy impalas and chevy belairs through the 50's & 60's. Out of 5 girls & me the youngest, I was allowed to occasionly drive them..only 14 at the time and only out on the country roads or a quick run around the block each saturday after he & I washed the car. I had to learn how to change a tyre & check the oil before being allowed to drive. Other than dad, I was the only family member to get a licence at age 17. By then, 1970 he drove smaller cars... but only ever owned fords. I felt like a super woman, as it was rare for a young girl to have a drivers licence back then let alone drive a fancy car. I always was the tomboy of all us girls, most would say...the son he never had and proud of it.

I always wanted a Mini Cooper S. I finally bought a basic Mini though, and was very happy with it. British Racing Green was her colour, JXZ536 was her plate. Unfortunately I was going around a bend too fast, flying on two wheels and finally rolled her over. I survived with torn tights, cut hand, but found a tube of mascara that had fallen between the seats. My dream car had finally died rather embarrassinglily with all four wheels in the air!
