Dramatic bodycam footage reveals former game show host’s volatile 2021 arrest

The world of television often presents us with polished images of celebrities and presenters, but sometimes, the curtain is pulled back to reveal a very different reality.

Such is the case with the newly released bodycam footage capturing the dramatic arrest of a former game show host. The incident from a few years ago has resurfaced, shedding light on the unexpected turn of events that led to the well-known personality's detention.

The release of this video has sparked renewed interest and conversation surrounding the circumstances of the arrest.

The footage, which a court made public and obtained by 9News, captured a moment in 2021 that many fans of Andrew O'Keefe—known for his work on shows like Deal or No Deal and The Chase Australia—would find difficult to reconcile with the charming persona they were accustomed to seeing on their screens.

The video began with NSW Police officers arriving at O'Keefe's door, a scene that started off without incident.

However, the atmosphere quickly changed when the officers informed him of his arrest.

O'Keefe, taken aback, demanded to know ‘why’ he was being detained. The response from an officer, ‘for assault and breaching an AVO’, seemed to trigger a volatile reaction from the former TV host.

The footage showed O'Keefe becoming increasingly agitated, shouting, ‘This is what happens when I don't have my medication…this is a very simple request, why are you being such f****** n**** about it.’

The situation escalated as the officers attempted to handcuff him, resulting in a struggle that saw O'Keefe pushed against a wall.

The tension did not subside as the footage continued, capturing O'Keefe in an elevator surrounded by police.

An officer's comment, ‘your attitude is not making it any better alright’, was met with a fiery retort from O'Keefe, saying, ‘Attitude? F*** you, man, this is not attitude…this is justifiable and righteous rage at the way I am being treated.’

Despite the intensity of the arrest, O'Keefe was later cleared of resisting arrest in relation to the incident.

However, the court found him guilty of assault for his actions towards a woman, which included kicking, pushing, and spitting—actions the magistrate condemned as ‘violent and degrading’.

O'Keefe is currently appealing the criminal convictions stemming from this incident. Yet, his legal troubles are far from over, as he faces fresh allegations unrelated to the 2021 arrest.

These include breaching an AVO, driving while suspended, and driving under the influence of drugs.

This incident took place in 2021. I any case he will do his time or whatever, I don`t think its anybody`s right to judge him. Has anyone with a negative opinion, had a famiy member or friend who has suffered mental illness or D&A addiction ?. It`s hell for those around them, much less the person who is usually so harshly judged. How about about a bit of support and concern?

Yes he obviously has problems and doesn’t appear to being helped. He has broken an AVO more than once, driven while under the affects of drugs, and assaulted at least one person. These things as we have often heard can eventually lead to horrific consequences. So it’s not a matter of kicking the man while he’s down !
l agree to disagree.Have a little empathy

Don't kick a man when he's down.He obviously has health and drug problems and needs help.lt's only because he was in the limelight that we are continually hearing about it.
I agree 100%
Kind regards Vicki

Yes for sure, nobody condons the violent behaviours, continually judging somebody when they are down and out is not the answer either. I don`t know where he is at with his recovery as everything seems to have settled down. I wish him and everyone else the very best, who are caught up in this devasting cycle of mental health and D&A torture that is impacting on so many victims, their family, friends and general community to-day. It seems to be worsening is this a sign of the times?

I liked Andrew in the positions he had on TV. He started the white ribbon campaign. Do not know how he has gone down this path. My thoughts are with his wife and children.
