Don't miss out! A new free streaming service is coming to Australia and New Zealand!

Whether it’s a movie night or a couch-time escape from everyday life, Aussies and Kiwis can now watch classic Australian content thanks to a new streaming platform launching this month.

Umbrella Entertainment, an independent Australian and New Zealand distributor of local and international films, has announced the launch of Brollie – a free ad-based streaming service packed with hundreds of Aussie films and TV shows.

Brollie will be the first streaming platform specialising in Australian film and TV content when it launches on November 23. Viewers of all ages can expect to be entertained and inspired by more than 300 titles ready to stream, including the 2014 psychological thriller Babadook, and the 1999 crime flick Two Hands starring Heath Ledger, Bryan Brown and Rose Byrne.

The platform also offers a special selection of Indigenous Australian films, as well as must-sees such as the 1983 action BMX Bandits starring a young Nicole Kidman, the 1999 drama Erskineville Kings starring Hugh Jackman, and the 2000 horror Cut starring Kylie Minogue.

And what’s even better? Much of the content won’t be available to stream on other platforms.

Umbrella Entertainment general manager Ari Harrison said: 'We know these iconic films and TV shows can find new and old audiences instead of gathering dust on the shelf. Brollie is about helping Aussies to access this world-class storytelling easily and, most importantly, for free, so everyone can enjoy our epic screen legacy.'

Subscribers of Brollie can also take part in the Brollie Film Club, where viewers get two best picks each month full of special features usually confined to DVD extras.

And it’s super easy to access! Brollie will be available on Apple TV, Android TV, Google TV, Chromecast and via browser at the Brollie website.

In the sea of oversaturated global streaming platforms, Brollie's dedicated focus on native content could thus be a welcome relief and a chance to champion and relish local storytelling.

Add free !!! That sounds good I'm hoping it's not free until everyone loves it and then told they need to start charging.

No commercials , 😕 that's interesting and no charge , how are they able to do it 🤔.

Sounds very good
Suzanne,
Sorry I think you misread that, it says - "– a free ad-based streaming service" so not ad-free but is free ...

ad based = 5 mins of show and 10 mins of ads, an easy way of turning a 30 min show into a 60 min one!!!!

Maybe one of Albo's Government FREE loans for developing 'ENTERPRISING' television. 🤔😉 Sunday too far away and Breaker Morant. Mad Max.

Then what's free ? Bit confusing 😕
Adv based means they make their money from advertisers so the customer doesnt have to pay for the service. They also mention there are premium options ( Subscribers of Brollie can also take part in the Brollie Film Club, where viewers get two best picks each month full of special features usually confined to DVD extras) which you would have to pay for.

It's not ad free, it states "free ADD BASED, that means it's free to the viewer, but is "ad based" meaning their income is from ads. That's how they can offer it free.
If my memory serves me correct, isn't that how Foxtel first started out, many, many years ago. Now they are one of the dearest.
Foxtel was ad free but how the tomes change.
I am getting rid of Foxtel and going to Binge (owned by Foxtel).
Less than half the price for no adds and 2 streams, plus 29 of the Foxtel channels.
