Domino's Australia unveils 'possible' new pizza topping – yum or yuck?

Domino's Pizza has reimagined an iconic Aussie food staple as a pizza, which has elicited widely different reactions from customers on various social media platforms.

In a video posted this week, Domino's Australia showcased a completely new creation that was made by covering one of its pizza bases with an entire can of baked beans.

Instead of beginning with tomato paste, the Domino's team covered the dough with shredded cheese, then spooned on baked beans, and finished by adding pepperoni slices and thick-cut ham on top of everything.

The end result was posted on Instagram, along with the question, 'Is this a blessing or a crime?'

It shouldn't have been a surprise that Aussies quickly began flocking to the post as soon as they saw it. After all, it's not every day that you scroll through your news feed and come across a picture of a pizza topped with baked beans...

Not surprisingly, several fans of the fast food pizza chain held very different viewpoints on the matter.

Those who were against the unusual flavour described it as 'gross' and 'almost illegal,' with one person saying this might just be the reason 'Australia should bring back capital punishment.'

A second person agreed and added, 'This is attempted murder charges on anyone who eats this.' Even the official page for the Queensland Police joined the banter, agreeing and adding, 'Can confirm, a crime has been committed.'

While some were dreading the unusual flavour combination, others were eager to try it. Lots of people were tagging their friends in the post, saying that they should give the new flavour a shot.

Heinz, the company whose beans were used by Domino's, also defended it as a blessing and asked, 'How do we order one?' One happy customer said that it was 'budget pizza at its best,' and another said that it was like a pizza version of a baked beans toastie.

A spokesperson for Domino's called the experimental pizza a 'comforting concoction' and said that people who like baked beans on toast would really enjoy it.

'At Domino's, we love playing around in our development kitchen testing what does (and doesn't) belong on pizza!' they told Yahoo Lifestyle.

'From watermelon and kiwifruit to mac 'n' cheese and potato gems, there's not much we haven't tried on a pizza. After all – it's our civic duty to make sure we leave no topping untested.'

Rebecca Preston, the Chief Marketing Officer for Heinz Australia, expressed her excitement about the news in a statement.

She said, 'Heinz Beanz is a much-loved Australian household favourite, and what better way to compliment them than to have Domino's cover their iconic pizza base with Beanz.'

Unfortunately, the baked beans pizza is only a concept created in Domino's development kitchen and is not currently available on the menu (for now...), so to those who are enthusiastic about the new flavour combination, you might have to hold your horses for a while, or try to reverse engineer it in your kitchen at home.

But don't lose hope, folks! The fast food chain has also offered cheese-topped Vegemite pizzas and meat pie pizzas in the past; this means that a baked beans mashup may not be entirely out of the question.

So what do you think, folks? Are you looking forward to giving this pizza topped with baked beans a try? Or do you think that this one should just stay in the development kitchen? Let us know in the comments!

I love bake bean sandwiches I love them using fresh bread not toast.

I think bake beans are mostly an aussie thing maybe English decendants.

I'm married to a Greek and they all hate them as do my Lebanese and Italian friends , although they eat alot of bean dishes just not saucy beans in a tin

Sorry off track
No I wouldn't eat it. Keep pizza's and bake beans separate
I couldn't imagine serving it to family or friends

Baked beans are sooooo English! My daughter-in-law has Italian parents and once told me she’d never been exposed to baked beans. 🤣 I love them - but they have to be Heinz in ham sauce! But like pineapple they don’t belong on a pizza!

I'd give it a go but my son wouldn't though. I'd like them to do a Cheese and Vegemite pizza with stuffed cheese crust....yumm.
