With vibrant hair colours becoming increasingly popular, temporary hair sprays that allow you to change up your look with ease have taken the market by storm. But a recent recall is raising concerns that not all products list ingredients properly, putting people's health at risk.

Oceana International has recalled batches of their temporary hair sprays sold between August 2022 to September 2023 after the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) found the products were missing crucial ingredient information required by law.

Without a full ingredients list, consumers have no way of checking for potentially dangerous allergens like fragrances, preservatives and dyes.

The recall statement explained, ‘The products were sold without the ingredient information that is required for cosmetic products.’

‘There is a risk of allergic reaction if consumers are exposed to ingredients they are sensitive or allergic to. Consumers will not be able to check the ingredients list to identify the possible cause and seek appropriate treatment.’

Temporary colours contain synthetic dyes that some may have sensitivities to as well. Proper labelling allows people to make informed decisions about what's safe for them to use.

The ACCC advised anyone with the recalled batches, identified by number W010530, to stop using the product and contact the place of purchase for a refund.

The Rainbow Road book series by Make Believe Ideas are beloved reads for toddlers and preschoolers. But it turns out the plastic binding rings keeping each page together can tear loose - and end up down a tiny throat.

‘If the binding rings are torn free, they can become small parts which can cause a choking hazard,’ the ACCC said in their statement.

The books sold between February 2022 and September 12, 2023, have been sold nationwide since February at major retailers, including Kmart, Target, Amazon, Booktopia and independent bookshops.
