Do apples grow from peach trees? Apple growers call out Woolworths for disturbing commercial — "Who can pick the mistake in this Woolies ad?"

It is no secret that modern science has paved the way for some trees to bear fruits from other species.

In fact, there are some orchards here in Australia that sell trees that were grafted to grow two different fruits from one source (e.g. Fruit Salad Trees’ Lemon + Orange tree).

While it may not be impossible for peach trees to grow apples nowadays, a seemingly sly Woolworths ad showing a fruit picker picking apples from trees, which appeared to be peach trees, has captured the attention of Australian apple growers.

Eagle-eyed viewers pointed out that the 15-second ad from the "fresh food people" showed an apple being picked from a peach tree, saying that Woolies may have made a mistake, and that potentially the apple wasn’t as ‘fresh’ as they were trying to portray.

Apple grower and owner of The Bilpin Fruit Bowl, Margaret Tadrosse, said that she immediately noticed the mistake from the clip the moment the gentleman was seen wandering a peach orchard before reaching his arm forward to pick an apple from a tree.

"Who can pick the mistake in this Woolies ad?" she asked on the Local Bilpin group Facebook page.

One respondent wrote: "Might be my eyes but kinda looks like a peach tree."

A number of apple growers also commented on the post, claiming that the ad was degrading to them.

Elsewhere in the post, Ms Tadrosse quipped that it is actually easy to tell the difference between apple trees and peach trees, describing them as "like night and day".

She explained: "There is a shorter leaf on an apple tree; peach trees have longer leaves."

Ms Tadross also revealed that she had sent an email to Woolworths regarding the ad, saying that she along with other apple growers find the clip humiliating.

It is understood that the ad was used as part of the supermarket's Fresh Seasonal Picks series.

A Woolworths spokesperson has reached out to the group, expressing the company's sincere apology for the oversight and admitting that the incident is an unintentional mistake in the editing.

"Our Woolworths Fresh Seasonal Picks ads highlight a wide range of fresh and locally sourced Australian fruit," the spokesperson said.

"The footage of a peach tree is used as an establishing shot at the beginning of all our current Fresh Seasonal Pick ads, including ads for raspberries, grapes, pears, apples, and stone fruit - but we can see why it might look like an oversight in this version featuring apples."

"We're proud to work closely with our growers to bring the best of Australian fresh fruit and veg to households across the country every week, celebrating the best of in-season produce with our Fresh Market Updates."

"We always appreciate feedback from our growers and have passed the feedback along to our production team."

Well, there you have it, folks! As it turned out, the trees used in the clip are actually not hybrid, rather it was an error in the editing. Oh also, we couldn’t find the Woolies ad anywhere to show you so we guess they might be a little bit embarrassed about the whole mix up!

Does the concept of hybrid trees pique your interest? Well, we recommend checking out this video where a professor explained how he managed to grow a tree that grows 40 kinds of fruit!

Has the world become so critical of everything that even an ad is fair game. Needing to prove their intellect too. Just dont watch or let it go. Really there are a lot worse things going on in the world at the moment than a tree mix up.

Woolworths fruit is picked before it is ripe & gassed to ripen in special rooms. Even bananas. The fruit for sale now was picked months ago. That's also why we can can buy fruit "out of season" - all year round. Coles probably does the same thing.

Seriously? Apple growers find the ad "humiliating' ?? Has the world gone completely insane? Obviously has if such a trivial piece of nonsense is considered newsworthy .....
