DIYer's fluffy stool project draws mixed reactions from fellow Kmart shoppers – is it worth a try?

At the Seniors Discount Club, we know the thrill of finding a great deal, especially when it involves getting creative with repurposed items to spruce up your home.

Today, we've got a juicy story for you about a Kmart DIY project that's got everyone talking… But not necessarily for positive reasons. It involves a DIY influencer who took part in a recent Kmart challenge to transform a $39 Stackable Stool into a trendy, fluffy furnishing.

So, in the video, the DIY influencer starts by attaching a roll of foam to the stool with some glue. Next, she purchases a $30 Faux Sherpa Bean Bag from Kmart and unstitched it at the seam to use the material to cover the stool.

With her trusty staple gun, she applies the faux sherpa material to the plain stool to create a fluffy and stylish new piece of furniture. She then shows how the stool could be used as an ornament, placed at the end of a bed to hold a plant and even a book. It looks lovely, right?

But, here's the catch - while the finished product looks impressive, some viewers have raised concerns about the cost and practicality of it. It's sparked some heated debates online!

It seems like not everyone is on board with this DIY project.

One commenter questioned why the stool needed to be covered in the first place since it already looked stylish in its original design. Some even felt that the whole thing ruined the stool, turning a good piece of furniture into something 'less desirable'.

One Kmart shopper summed it up pretty succinctly, saying, 'That's a hard no for me. The table was nice. Actually, I'd like to buy the table. But you lost me at white fluffy stuff.' Others echoed similar sentiments, with comments like 'How to ruin a good stool' and 'Firm no for me!'.

Us older persons must learn that everything an "influencer" does, says or posts, means we have to embrace and believe it, no matter what. 😆 🤯

I haven’t watched the video and probably won’t. For starters is the piece of furniture suitable for older citizens? I say not, it would be a danger hazard to fall over. Now my real grrr at this is what happens to all those foam beans? 😡

Home decor choices have the same result as individual clothing choices You either like it or you don't. I have never liked fluffy furniture, so have limited that particular decor fashion to carefully placed individual cushions, usually in the bedrooms, people who have any skill in DIY, have my unlimited admiration as I have always been the "Ideas" person who can visualise the look I am after but unable to actually DIY make it. so whoever can make my ideas come to life is very skilled and noteworthy to me. That admiration also extends to anyone who can sew more than a simple button on a piece of clothing.

Most influencers say they have come across a fantastic new idea, but it is usually a common idea women in the household have been using since 1920 !!! I am sure they look at old ideas around the house, courtesy of old books found in op shops , library put a small new spin on it and the "Wow, look at this AWESOME idea to try and I am just blown away from it"Awesome is in large letters because that word grates on my brain, I suppose the Americans made that up too lol

I must say I do like the brick for the sidetable, but not painted white, left natural and source older ones, back in 1940,s. Give them a really good clean, and brick a natural stain, with a lovely thick raw, but stained, wooden top. I am going to do this to see what it turns out like, so will send a picture for you.

Hate fluffy furniture too , deserves the pillows out of sight !!!! That stool could have been stained darker to what it is, and a lovely old ornate shelf put through the openings to make a smart shelf to it. Not sure how tall they are, but would make a nice pair of bed sidetables. On the shelf some small REAL plants, and small bedside lamps on top shelf.

Oh this would be lovely, @LynneM! Personally not a fan of the white paint too...
