Supermarkets have started stocking up their shelves with festive treats in preparation for the upcoming holiday season.

'Our team are so excited to get into the Christmas spirit a little bit early,' said Coles' spokesperson Martine Alpins.

'People really like to often try things before Christmas Day, and a lot of our customers also like to budget and spread the cost of Christmas before Christmas arrives.'

Starting Wednesday, Woolworths added that they will have their Christmas favourites on shelves.

Though this may seem like a rather early start to the festive season, the supermarkets have their reasons–primarily to help customers plan and budget for Christmas in advance rather than being hit with a huge shopping bill in December.

Glenn Baker, Everyday Rewards General Manager, said that many customers like to cash in their accumulating rewards points when the holiday season arrives.

'Last year, the average member got $100 off their shop at Christmas,' he said.

'We are expecting to have that much more money per member and more members this coming Christmas.'

Meanwhile, ALDI is yet to release its 2023 Christmas line.

Yes I like to have plenty of time to do Christmas shopping. The shops always have a nice festive feel to them leading up to Christmas so it is also enjoyable shopping at this time of year. It is also good when they compete for business I know I am getting a good price on my shopping
