Discover the unexpected turn of events at this little boy's birthday party

Three-year-old William Buck was brimming with excitement at the prospect of his upcoming birthday party.

The youngster had been increasingly aware of his approaching big day and had been asking pretty much every day of the month when his party would be, eagerly looking forward to fun and games with his friends on his local beach.

As he sat patiently with his father, he wondered about the whereabouts of his guests.

'He kept asking where everyone was, and we were like “They’re coming soon,”' William’s dad, Steven, shared.

However, minutes came and went, and as his son held on to hope, Steven’s uncertainty grew.

With no progress in sight, the Wellington dad then took matters into his own hands.

Driven by his love for his son, he took to social media as a last-ditch attempt to save the day.

He posted a picture of him and the birthday boy on the deserted beach and extended an open invitation to all locals looking for some 'sun and sand' to swing by and celebrate with his little boy.

'William would love some friends to play with. He has Hot Wheels, sand toys, dinos, and we have some snacks and drinks. Any and all welcome,' the dad wrote.

Due to unexpected illnesses and situations beyond their control, all the children who were originally invited couldn't make it, according to Steven.

Despite the disappointing situation, Steven was hell-bent on making sure his son enjoyed his special day.

And in a heartwarming turn of events, the community responded in a way they didn't anticipate.

Thousands of strangers wished William a 'Happy Birthday' online, and to their surprise, many locals decided to go beyond the digital well wishes.

'Going there. See you soon,' one woman commented before turning up with her entire family.

The beach, previously deserted and silent, was soon teeming with joyous partygoers, all there to celebrate William’s third birthday.

Others came bearing bubbles and inflatables, setting themselves up on beach chairs, ready to celebrate the sunny day made just for William.

By the end of the day, Steven was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from hard-to-know locals turned friendly beach party attendees.

'Thank you so much, everyone, for the birthday wishes and support,' Steven wrote after the unforgettable day.

'Wellington, you always restore my faith in humanity!'
