Discover the secret behind this Kmart shopper’s stunning DIY feature wall

Everyone loves a good DIY project that not only makes a significant impact at home but also won’t break the bank.

So, when we heard about a creative Kmart shopper's stunning feature wall transformation using affordable supplies from the popular retailer, we just had to share it with you!

It’s no secret that budget home renovators love picking up a bargain from Kmart. From furniture and decorative accessories to tools, there’s something to suit everyone’s style. However, the latest transformation shared by one Kmart shopper could just be the best one yet.

A DIY enthusiast by nature, the shopper shared the incredible transformation of her living room using the popular 4-Pack Light Stone Decking Tiles ($29). With it, she managed to ‘totally transform’ her living room, creating a gorgeous feature wall around her TV and fireplace.

She did a good job of enhancing the look of the space and did so for just a fraction of the cost of hiring a professional stonemason.

The woman also shared her pride and joy on a Facebook group, saying she ‘couldn't be happier’ with the outcome of her living room makeover.

‘Living room starting to take shape, starting with our feature wall,’ she wrote and uploaded a photo of her impressive handiwork in a photo.

She revealed she was originally quoted 'thousands’ for a stonemason to complete the job. When that happened, the resourceful DIYer decided to take matters into her own hands.

Using 17 packs of Kmart's interlocking tiles made from natural travertine stone, four bags of grout, and some cement, she created the beautiful feature wall for $600, slashing the quote for the renovation.

According to the product description, Kmart’s 4-Pack Light Stone Decking Tiles can ‘upgrade the look of your outdoor space or patio’.

The tiles are made from a natural travertine stone and polypropylene (PP) base and measure 29.5 cm (L) x 29.5 cm (W).

Kmart also provided instructions on how to assemble the decking tiles easily: ‘To join tiles together, connect pins along the underside edge of one tile to the holes extending from the other.’

They also stated not to allow the tiles to be submerged in water for extended periods of time.

Decking tiles are relatively easy to install and can be placed over any flat and stable surface, such as concrete, grass, or even existing wood decking. This means that property owners don't have to worry about the cost and complexity of carrying out major decking construction projects.

They’re also easier to maintain and require less cleaning and sealing because of the pre-sealed material that they are made from.

Members of the Facebook group were astounded by the transformation, with many praising her creative use of Kmart's affordable tiles.

‘Now this is what I call a successful hack - looks amazing!’ one person wrote.

‘That feature wall looks absolutely stunning,' one replied.

‘Obsessed with this,’ another social media user responded.

Some remarked how her use of the Kmart tiles was the best they'd seen – and we can't help but agree!

‘Looks great! I think this is the first use of these I've been truly impressed with,’ someone said.

‘Best application of those tiles I've seen. Looks fantastic!’ offered another.

Not only did the DIY enthusiast showcase her impressive handiwork, but she also shared how she achieved the striking effect.

She revealed that she wasn't a fan of the straight edges on the tile, so she decided to cut them up. ‘I left the edges around the sides straight, so it gave it the best and easiest finish. The ones in the middle of the wall, I removed all the outer ones to give it an organic finish,’ she said.

The Kmart website has also been filled with rave reviews for the tiles since their launch. From bathroom areas to feature walls, it’s clear that this product is versatile and incredibly useful for achieving stunning transformations.

‘These tiles are amazing. I have re-vamped my front steps with these, and it looks professionally done. No wonder they are sold out everywhere. I need two more packets. You won't regret buying these. I would give ten stars if I could,’ one review read.

Another agreed and said: ‘Awesome product. Really easy to lay and click together. The only trouble is getting more.’

‘Amazing product. It’s just annoying that it took me a while to supply all the products from different Kmart stores,’ one more replied.

‘Surprising attractive looking for the price. It’s easy to assemble,’ someone else shared.

This isn’t the first time we’ve written about this product. Late last year, a woman also used Kmart’s decking tiles to transform her old table to look like a designer piece. You can read more about that here.

I think she's a bit more then just a "DIY enthusiast". She seems very arty.

I do a lot of DIY, but this is something I wouldn't have even thought of doing. I would have just put them on the wall and tried to match up the edges.

And I bet she put the TV on the wall herself and built in the fish tank? And going by the reflection of the room, it all looks very neat with the picture frames all lined up precisely. I think she's got a very nice house. 🙂

It's a gas fire place and tv above it. I love it. I may do myself. I need a new gas fire.
