Discover the essentials: Why these five ALDI products top a mum's shopping list

Sometimes, life can get too chaotic and we all find ourselves chasing a simpler way of living. While groceries can get complicated, we can make things easier by making a list of the essentials and sticking to it when shopping.

One post on social media opened the discussion: ‘What is everyone's top five products that they only get from ALDI and nowhere else?’

A savvy mum who loves shopping at ALDI shared her own top five must-buy items for the week in the post.

This mum has been visiting ALDI for years and considers herself an expert on the brand’s range, so who better to ask for tips about the products you should be stocking your pantry with?

Here are the five items this ALDI super shopper will always buy from the budget supermarket:

1. Deli Originals Fresh Hommus Dip 1kg, $4.99

The Deli Originals Hommus Dip received positive reviews from consumers, with others claiming this is the only hommus they eat. People shared their sentiments on Choice.com:

‘Since I first tried this product, ALDI Hommus, I prefer it over any other that I've tried,’ a reviewer wrote.

A second said, ‘We have been buying ALDI hummus for ages and we prefer it to any of the other brands we’ve purchased. Great value for money!’

If you need more encouragement to add this hommus dip into your weekly shop, Consumer Experts at Choice gave the dip an impressive 78 per cent rating in their tests.

A tip. Do not use the Butterfully product in recipes that call for softened butter. I did and had lbig fails every time I tried to make cookies. Couldn't understand why when it had never happened before. When I analysed what I was doing differently it was this product as a (cheaper) substitute for the butter I used to use. Went back to butter and, hey presto, all good again.

FYI I was making things using Aldi's cake and cookie mixes.
The Beautifully butter is a butter blend which is very different to butter you bake with I’ve never used it for baking only for spreading on bread toast etc and I might mention that the Caterer pack is not the same spread that’s in the smaller 500g container as my family emphatically told me so i stopped buying the Caterer pack as a spread

Aldi have some great value products but I am concerned that they are importing food items that should be supplied by Australian producers. These include peanut butter from Argentina, jam from Belgium, corn flakes from Germany, and can you believe it, frozen potato chips from Belgium and Netherlands.
If Aussies support Aldi then Aldi should help Aussies by purchasing locally to keep Aussies in jobs.
Coles andWooles have jam from Poland ……tinned mushrooms from Mexico….Equal from Czech Republic just to name a few items …I found Aldi had more Australian products….then Coles or Woolies.

Me too, definitely not the same

I think your answer to the question may be aldi purchases a lot of European products and keeps the prices low for this reason, I remember when living in uk the products on sale were German and Dutch etc and good quality.
Yep

Crumpets, cheese block 🧀 (Australian),milk, yoghurt, pasta, fruit and vegetables etc compare prices to Coles and Woolworths Aldi bet them hands ✋ down never had a bad bit of meat or chicken from Aldi keep shopping with the other two and get ripped off your a mug if you don't try a shop with Aldi

I LOVE the caterers pack and no one has ever conplained!

I’m not a fan of Aldi, I buy very little from there. I feel like the quality is that of home brand products. I mainly go in for the specials down the middle of the store
You would have problems shopping in any store in Europe or the USA, since there would be very few brands that you would recognise!

I shop at Aldi all the time and hardly ever need to go to the other supermarkets. Every week I buy their full cream milk, light rye bread, hommus, natural Greek yogurt and 2 kg of chicken drumsticks for $7:49. I never buy any foodstuffs from china! You never know what might be in them.

I am sure there would be volunteers who would take you shopping. Why don't you get in contact with your council. I buy my soy milk and cat food from Aldi now for half the price of Woolies and Coles. Their fruit is sometimes cheaper as well. But unfortunately still have to go to Woolies to do the basics online and can only go to Aldi when someone takes me from my Aged care service. Wish they did online, but then the prices would probably escalate.

My daughter has a B&B and only uses Bakehouse bread, all range. Tiramisu-always have at least one in the freezer. Although I like yogurt it d like me. Found that Aldi PremierE Greek style is a winner. Our pet conure will eat only Aldi tin cream.

I just looked up Aldi's website:

Trending FAQs

Can I order grocery products online?
No, our grocery range is currently not available to buy online.
Another reason why Aldi is cheaper, you can't expect to get cheaper prices and then expect all the bells and whistles. Online costs the store more money to pay someone to virtually do your shopping for you.
I would love Aldi to do click and collect, as I have to drive one and a quarter hours to get my groceries and it would be great to be able to just pick them up, grab a coffee and head back home, but I'm not silly enough to think that this service will be provided free of charge.

Hear what you are saying Rickles but I think it is a subject where you would be caught between a rock and a hard place. Unfortunately if all that was available for Australians was Aussie manufactured foods, then the cost of our foods would be costing a lot more and our weekly standard purchases would skyrocket where a lot of people could not afford to buy groceries. :(

No.... the one with the better quality at a cheaper price wins.... one of the reasons why I shop at Aldi is because of the imports.
If a product can be sold cheaper by importing it, despite all the additional import fright and duties and handling costs, why can't the local equivalent be sold even cheaper?
I know what is involved in the import game, I was in the game.

I love Aldi, but I would NEVER buy any of those 5 products! I make my own bread, hummus and wouldn't buy the others anyway. I like their toilet Paper, dog treats and Serrano ham.
I buy my toilet paper made in China, 1000 sheet 3 ply for just over $1.00 and they last me a year.

Aldi does not deliver in Australia, nor can we order online here. The website link you provided is the UK site. Thanks for getting my hopes up & then dashing them lol
